Chanel Les 4 Ombres Eye Shadow Quad - Lagons (29)

Part of Chanel's L'ame d'un regard collection (Spring 2011 - Asia) and also to be a part of the Chanel Sophisticated Eye collection 2011 in US.  The shadows in US come in squares instead of the round shapes seen in Asia, but the colours are the same.

The L'ame d'un regard collection collection includes the following:
  • Les 4 Ombres - Eye shadow quad - Lagons (29)
  • Le Sublime de Chanel Mascara - 3 colours - Black, Brown, Dark Purple (review here)
  • Ombres Essentielle - single eyeshadow quads - Fauve and Twilight (Pink and Taupe)

Stylo Yeux Waterproof Pencil - twist up eyeliners - Marine and Espresso (Blue and Brown)

Chanel Sophisticated Eye Collection also has the Vanities Eyeshadow quad - swatches here:

I bought the quad - Lagons - which is essentially a mix of blues, the theme of the collection being Soulful Eyes.  Like all Chanel eye shadow quads, the packaging is a glossy black case with only the interlocking C logo for a decoration.  The case is housed in a velvet pouch - keeps it safe from scratches and fingerprints.  The glossy case looks very classy but is also an amazingly powerful fingerprint/dust magnet.  And the velvet pouch, a lint magnet!  Despite that, I cannot deny, the packaging is very classy.

The case comes with a big mirror (good) and two cotton applicators (useless).  The eye shadows themselves are covered with a transparent plastic cover, and I would recommend not throwing it away and use it to cover the shadows because they tend to fly all around the case, otherwise.

The quad has 3 different shades of blue and an almost white shade.  The shadows are all soft and have a very fine shimmer in them - not very obvious except in the deep blue - but it's there.  The shadows are less pigmented than one would expect, and from what I have seen, that is generally the case with most Chanel quads.  The deepest blue is the most pigmented followed by the adjacent light blue and then light grey-violet-bluish shade.  The almost white shade is perfect for use as a highlighter.  If used by layering the shadows over one another, the colours turn out very bright and pigmented, but I prefer it a bit more toned down.

On my eyes:  I used the deep blue near my lashline and a mix of two other shades over that.  The lightest shadow I used under my brow bone (not that it's seen very well in the photo).  I am not very confident about wearing brighter/nonbrown colours, so I prefer this way of using it.  I like that the quad can be tweaked to go from a toned down application to a more deeper brighter shade.

I feel Chanel single eye shadows (Ombres Essentielle) are more pigmented than any of their quads.  Would I label this a quad a must-buy? Not if you have similar shades or if you are not too keen on a blue (toned down or not) look.  Get it if you love the shades and are in the mood for a splurge.

Cost:  Rs. 3050/1.2 g ($57.00)
