Green Garbanzo Beans and Potato Curry

Green chickpeas that are meant to be shelled like fresh green peas aren't something I am familiar with at all, so when I found them at the store this weekend, I picked up some to try.

I have no clue how people actually cook these, but I made a very simple onion-tomato sauce and added boiled chickpeas and potato to it.  Not bad at all, but if any of you know any other way of cooking this, do share :)

Here's the recipe I followed:  Boil the chickpeas in slightly salted water till they are cooked through.  Drain and set aside.  I had about 1 large cup of shelled chickpeasAlso need 1 large potato, boiled, chopped roughly into cubes.

Saute 1 onion, finely chopped, until pink and translucent.  Add ginger-garlic paste (about 1 tsp).  Add 2 tomatoes roughly chopped and finely chopped cilantro (corriander leaves) and fry this mixture till the oil starts to separate from the sides.

Add 1/4 tsp haldi/turmeric powder, 3/4 tsp red chili powder, 1/2 tsp corriander powder, and 1/2 tsp garam masala powder.  Fry on low heat for about a minute.  Add boiled chickpeas and potato cubes.

Add salt to taste, about 1/2 cup water, let the gravy simmer until the sauce thickens and coat the pieces.  Serve hot with phulkas and a small bowl of yogurt.  Yum.
