Unique powder blusher offers buildable coverage, from natural to dramatic, and imparts a flattering radiance to cheeks. Remarkably silky texture ensures easy application of seamless colour. Applied high on the cheekbone, or near the eyes, it instantly 'lifts' and softens the face for a more youthful look.
The Chanel Joues Contraste Rose Petale is the first Chanel blush I got - picked it up on a recommendation from an MUA after a makeover at the counter. The blush, like so many other Chanel powder products, has a simple glossy black packaging that comes with a velvet pouch to house it in.
As always, a classy packaging but the velvet pouch is such a lint magnet and starts to look a bit shabby after a while. A small brush is included with the blush - I have an older version, and the brush is absolutely horrible. The newer blushes come with much softer brushes, but this one I have is bad, especially by Chanel standards!
A small plastic dome-shaped sleeve protects the powder blush, and I lost it some time back, so the powder gets all messy and scattered everywhere.
On to the blush itself, Rose Petale is a pretty pretty pink, with a hint of berry that gives it some depth, and warmth due to the fine shimmer in it. It is a slightly darker pink, not really a pale pink, but I do feel it is just about barely visible on my darker skin. Anyone darker than me would perhaps be better off with some other colour - it's just my opinion. Joues Contraste blushes have a very finely milled texture and have a fine shimmer to them. Even on my darker skin, this just gives a beautiful glow and a hint of colour. JCs are also very forgiving blushes - easy to blend and use even for a makeup newbie like me. There is a rose fragrance to the product that I am quite used to, but it might be an issue for anyone who is sensitive to smells in cosmetics.
Swatches: The finely-milled powder looks almost chalky in a swatch, and I have never been able to get the shimmer to show up in photos.
On my face, it shows up as a natural-looking pink, the perfect flush, and because of the fine shimmer in it, it never looks chalky. Sadly it never ever shows up that good in my photos. I tried, and this is the best I could come up with:
I love this blush, mainly because I can never overdo it, and it looks quite natural on me. If you are my skin colour or darker (NC 42-45 am guessing based on a random comment by a MAC artist), this might not show up that easily like some of the other blushes, but I am quite shy with colour, and for me this is perfect :) I have never had breakouts or any skin problems with any Chanel product ever, and this blush is no exception.
