Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Lip and Cheek Stain

Benefit Cosmetics Benetint - Rose-tinted lip and cheek stain; kiss-proof, see-through color that lasts for hours.  Originally created for an exotic dancer in the 1970s, Benetint has soared to cult fave status.  It's loved by celebs, makeup artists and gals around the world.  It's the sexiest flush you can get from a bottle!.

Benefit Cosmetics Benetint lip and cheek stain is the first "stain" I am trying out - a liquid that stains the skin instead of just lying over it.  The Benetint I have is a smaller size bottle that is a part of the Benefit Feelin' Cheeky! Minis set.  The packaging, though, is the same as the full-size bottle - similar to a nail polish bottle, complete with a brush applicator.

The Benetint stain is a deep rose watery liquid that leaves a rosy red stain on the skin.  It smells strongly of roses, and while I don't have a problem with it, this might be an issue for people with sensitive noses.

How to Use the Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Lip and Cheek Stain

Brush three strokes of Benefit’s popular rose-colored tint on the apple of your cheek and blend quickly with fingertips.  Do the same on your other cheek.  Dot on lips & blend with fingertip.  For a deeper “pop” of color, repeat.

I found this drying on my lips.  It left a bit of stain - not really a deep rose stain - but my natural lip colouring is unevenly pigmented, and I wasn't really expecting much in terms of colour from a lip stain.  On my cheeks, this does give a perfectly natural flush. Because this stains the skin immediately, there is not much room for repair if I get it wrong, so I won't use it when I am in a hurry till I am better at makeup. This is how the Benefit Benetint looks on me (used as a cheek stain) - I think I need to apply the stain a bit higher..this got a bit lower than I wanted :P

It didn't show up well on my lips and dried them out, so I have only used Benetint as a cheek stain.
On my lips, I used MAC Evolution Revolution lipglass from the Bloggers' Obsession collection.

  1. I love Benetint. You can use it in a hurry if you blend with a brush - kind of like pat the brush on quickly. The trick is to not bother closing the bottle (then you save time). Usually I lose time (and it sets so quickly) when I apply it and attempt to close the bottle before blending :) It's a cool product though.

  2. With a brush? Hmm..how do you do that? You dab it on the face and blend with brush, is it? I use my fingers..didn't think of brush. Ya I should remember to not bother closing the bottle...is such a habit..I am so bothered about closing the bottle and this gets absorbed :|

  5. You know the stippling brush? Just swipe it around the cheek, gently, in circular. Granted it will absorb some colour, but it's quicker than fingers, I feel. Same way you would blend your blush. I apply twice usually, to get colour, as I'm dark (NW43) :)

  8. Fieran - I have the stippling brush..will try out with it..thank you :) :) Oh...please tell me...will stain come off the brush? I don't want to stain the MAC one permanently..it's my precious lone MAC brush..will just buy a cheaper one if it's going to stain..

Gargi - Aww..you wait for Benefit to come to India :|

Gaea - I might be the wrong person to review this...it's probably meant for people who are better with blush-blend than I am..plus I am darker so the colour doesn't show up that well on me :(

    Haaaa it's not Chanel..it's Inglot :D :D :D :P :P

  10. aw sorry didnt mean to disappoint u! :(
one thing abt stains is that i always feel it leaves little spots when seen in the magnifying mirror of course it doesnt show but it kinda irks me like they are rashes!
but i agree stains dont show up on photos unless layered with something else or overdone in person!

    ahhh Inglot ... nice! :)

  11. Heyy noooo...is absolutely true. It did look splotchy and dotted/spotted on for a while and I kept thinking I wasn't blending properly enough. It does take some getting used to, I guess :P Oh I will try layering it with something next time..I think that would be a better look for me. You didn't think of Inglot did you..haaaaaaaaaaaa :D :D :D :D

  12. I had the original red color waaaay back when, and I did like it! I only used it as a cheek stain, though - it gave me a nice, natural flush, and it was pretty easy to use.

  14. Oh here its almost 40 euro for the full sized bottle to I stick to the knock-off that are just as good :D I like the effect as well but on me i think 3 streaks are too dark, still i do dab over it with a sponge or foundation brush still dirty for a less clownly look :D always moisturized with lip balm I prefer it as lip stain actually more than cheeks thingie =/

  15. It will show up quite well on you, Deb, won't it? I don't know if I would buy the full size bottle..these minis are quite enough for me.

  16. @Rads: No, no you can wash it out from the brush easily. I use this Castille soap from Dr Bronner's for deep cleaning my brushes. You can get the small bottles from stores like Whole Foods. (looks like this http://www.allure.com/images/beauty-products/skin/2010/dr-bronners-castille-soap-en.jpg). All my brushes become extremely clean, safe for my 168 which has white bristles. That one has a permanent pinkish tinge (slightly) but not from Benetint, more from blushes.

    1. Hi Priya..I don't think you would find this in India..not yet available there. I have heard rumors of Sephora opening in Mumbai some time this year, so it will probably be available then :)
