ELF Essentials features a lot of products in the very tempting $1 price range, and the ELF Brightening Eyeliner in Black is just one such product.  This is a regular black eyeliner pencil and comes with a sharpener.  You know this is going to be a very biased reivew now, don't you?  They gave a pencil AND a sharpener for $1!  There's no way I can find faults with it now :D :D

Swatched on my hand, the color is black, of course, but not really deep dark black.  It does glide on smoothly and is reasonably soft.  On my lashline it's the same black colour, but the eyeliner shows up lighter on my waterline.

ELF Brightening Eyeliner Pencil - My Experience:  I bought this eyeliner pencil to use as a base for lighter eyeshadows.  I was not looking for a jet black intensity or staying power.  The ELF eyeliner pencil is black enough to be used for this purpose, and I don't have to worry about using up too much at this price.  Needless to say, for me this pencil is a winner.  However, if you are planning on using this as a regular eyeliner pencil:
  • The staying power of the eyeliner is quite poor.  It disappears in no time from my eyes, especially if I my hand goes anywhere near my eye.  Can use this as an eyeliner if you don't need the makeup to last a long time, though.
  • It does not irritate my eyes/skin.
  • It does glide on easily enough, but sometimes when it's a bit cold the tip of the eyeliner tends to get a bit hard.  Just rub the eyeliner on your hand to warm it up and soften it - not really a major problem.
Overall, a great buy especially if you prefer darker/smokey eye makeup and use this as a base for eye shadows.  Used on it's own, though, the pencil does suffer from a lack of staying power, so keep it for the quick-errands makeup.

And this is how it looks on me - Used the ELF Brightening Eyeliner Pencil along the upper lashline and lightly smudged it along the lower lash line, keeping it darker towards the outer half.

  8. I think ELF is a very inconsistent with quality cos I have read all kinds of reviews on any given product...the brush..I read rave reviews on it and I didn't like it that much. Maybe with this pencil I really didn't have any expectations and I needed a sharpener anyway soooo :D :D :D
