Blush on Some Malice: The New Chanel Joues Contraste

Chanel Joues Contraste in Malice (available here) - $43

Unique powder blusher offers buildable coverage, from natural to dramatic, and imparts a flattering radiance to cheeks. Remarkably silky texture ensures easy application of seamless colour. Applied high on the cheekbone, or near the eyes, it instantly 'lifts' and softens the face for a more youthful look.

Malice is one of the four new/reformulated Joues Contraste blushes that Chanel released earlier this month.  The Chanel website shows this as a reddish-orange colour.  I should have known better than to trust that swatch, but I did just that and bought this blush right away.  Turns out it's a pinkish-coral blush - not really as intense a colour as I was expecting - but pretty nevertheless!  The packaging is a classic Chanel glossy black that has the uncanny ability to attract every speck of dirt within a 5-mile radius :P  Also included is a generously sized mirror and a small brush.

Like all Chanel Joues Contrastes, Malice too has fine shimmer in it - a fine golden shimmer.  The blush itself is soft and powdery and goes on quite smoothly on the skin.  Easy to blend and almost fool-proof.  This feels a little different from some of the earlier baked versions I have tried, though.  The shimmer is hardly visible on my skin (much less than the earlier subtle versions), and I am still undecided about which version I find easier to blend.

Chanel Joues Contraste Malice - Swatch/FOTD

The colour is a pretty peach-pink that leaves a subtle glow on the skin and a perfect pick for the summers.  Though it does have shimmer in it, on the skin it just seems to melt away and is hardly visible.  Here's how it looks on my hand, applied as a heavy swatch.  I swatched it on lighter skin so it shows up better.  On my face (darker skin :P), it shows up as a darker coral - more like what that swatch I fell in love with on the site looked like.  It's very pigmented, and even on my skin tone, it's best applied lightly.

Additional Products Used:  Chanel Perfection Lumiere foundation + NARS Tinted Moisturizer in Cuba
UD Eyeliner in Perversion on the waterline
Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in My Mahogany topped with Chanel lipgloss in Praline

Chanel JC blushes are quite pricey at $43, but the quality and ease of use make these my favorite blushes.  In fact, if I could only pick one product from Chanel (gasp!!), it would be these.

    1. They are...all my other blushes are baked I guess, they look different. I think think thinkkkkk the baked ones blender a tad easier, but I amn't sure. I generally take a while to get used to any blush so it could probably be that.

    2. Yes, the European formula is always baked. I actually like the non-baked version. I don't have the blush (I don't think so at least. The only Chanel blush I have is In Love and it looks baked to me despite buying it in Seattle, but I might be wrong).

I have the non-baked eyeshadow... the US formula and it is kind of nicer than the European baked version because there is less fallout.

    3. Don't they look more and more baked as they age? Hope that made sense now..but somehow I feel those blushes looked prettier when I bought them :P

    4. I think I get what you mean, the baked stuff become a bit "smoother" on the top? If that makes any sense? So they lose that 'freshly baked' look..maybe?

I'm sure they would still "perform" the same way :)

  5. gotta luv your detailed posts. it looks lovely on your skin tone. btw how is the UD perversion holding up in your waterline?

something close to reddish orange i have been loving is Bobbi brown shimmer blush in coral applied with a mac duo fiber brush. i have similar skin tone and i think its great for summer.

    1. Hi Anila :) Am loving UD so far....it stays on decently enough for around 3 hours before it starts fading from the waterline proper..but it stays on at the edges near the lashes for ever..need a proper makeup remover/coconut oil on Q-tip to get it off :D

Bobbi Brown shimmer bricks would look awesome for the summer, won't they? I am not too fond of shimmers though, so stay away from those..but they sure look very tempting :D

*Do you have any recommendations on a good hair dryer? I was looking to buy one..amn't too sure if I want to spend too much..especially if I have to lug it back to India it should work there na..but I really want a good one :| :|)

      Hey
For hair dryers, i dont really spend alot. i focus more on the watts than the brand so for my curly hair blow drying i find 1875 W works the best and fastest. currently i own vidal sassoon (an old model), this is the best i have tried so far and i have tried both high end and low end, make sure it has a cool setting also, mine doesnt and i miss that cuz it helps set the style. another thing, buy a cheap one with high wattage when u r in india instead of getting it here cuz then you will have to get the converter and sometimes they dont work. hope that helps.
And Thanks for the reply on UD, zero wasnt all that great either in my opinion. i really want a pencil liner that wont smear or disappear and is super black.
When i was close to a CCO , i was tempted many times to getBobbi Brown shimmer bricks from older launches but never did cuz i think on my nc 37ish skintone it shows up glittery/ashy and only serves to highlight pores. if it was more of a diffused shimmer like guerlain or chanel does for their blushes i think it would work better, speaking of which i cant wait to try out their summer bronzers!

    3. Thank you :D :D You actually copy pasted everything here!! :D :D :D Hmm..I guess I will just get a cheaper version here then..and look for all the things that you mentioned.

I tried the Maybelline gel liner on the waterline..that stays on too..the thing is my eyes water a lot, so there's really nothing that's going to stick on to the waterline..so all I look for is something that doesn't smudge and create a mess around the eye. That way I have no complaints from either the Maybelline liner or the UD Perversion :D I have never been to a CCO..not seen one near where I stay.

  6. Google to check if you have any premium outlets near your area and if there is one then they usually have CCO ( cosmetic company outlet) there. They have many brands including Mac Bobbi brown este Lauder and Clinique slightly cheaper but not whole collections . These outlets r great for other brands too for clothing etc.
