MAC Amorous Lipstick

MAC Cosmetics:  Lipstick - Amorous (available here) - Cost $14.50

A satin finish, plum/mauve lipstick with a hint of brown to it.  Not quite matte, with opacity and pigmentation of a matte lipstick but a little less drying and with a bit  glossiness to it.

Amorous is among the first MAC lipsticks I bought.  I really didn't check finishes or reviews before buying - just went in, swatched a few, and picked up the ones that seemed like they would work for me.  MAC describes Amorous as a Lovestruck Cranberry.  Having never encountered a lovestruck cranberry, I am going to have to describe this shade rather blandly as a plum/mauve with faint brown undertones to it :P

On me, the brown undertones are not really that very obvious though it makes this a deeper colour than what a regular mauve or plum would be.  The lipstick has a faint, sweet vanilla fragrance to it that I detect while applying and promptly forget about soon after.  With no shimmer or shine to it, this satin finish lipstick packs a lot of pigment and a hint of glossiness.  It looks plum on me, and whatever brown undertones it has, they really don't bother to show up on my lips - and thankfully so.  I am no fan of brown shades :D  This is how it looks on me - swatches and FOTD.

Because my natural lip colour is darker, the plum tones are more obvious on me (in fact, this is what I thought MAC Rebel would look like!).  I don't think Amorous would show up as a brown lipstick on anyone, but the browner tones might be more pronounced if you have less pigmented lips.
MAC Amorous seems to me to be more of a winter/fall colour (though, of course, you can wear it any time of the year!) since it's one of those colours that don't really brighten your face up like sunmery corals do.  It's a lipstick for days when you want a darker lip without really going for a vampy/loud colour.  Being a satin finish, this is not the most moistirizing of lipsticks. While it doesn't make my lips flaky or dry, it does tend to emphasize the lines on my lips on days when they are already slightly dry.  This would not be a problem for people with normal (or perfect lips), but my lips tend to be drier than the average person, so it's a little more of an issue with me.  An easy solution is to give your lips a gentle scrub and use a lip balm under/over the lipstick.  The staying power is impressive, and it leaves a pretty stain on the lips even when it does fade.

If you are duskier skinned and looking for a plum/mauve colour lipstick, you can add MAC's Amorous lipstick to your list of potentials.  If you are lighter and/or find this too dark to use on a regular basis, you could tone down the colour by apply it lightly as a stain or just blot with some paper to leave a pretty stain on the lips.  Yes, it's not a colour that really stands apart, but it's one of those colours that anybody could find a use for :)

  12. Had to comment though late, I laughed out loud at the bit about never have encountered a lovestruck cranberry. As a copywriter I guess I am guilty too of writing OTT descriptions at time. Nice shade...and since you were talking about corals for summer, have you stocked up on any? would be interested to know what you pick up since we are a similar skintone.

    1. :D :D I don't know why they wrote that description..most of the other colours had rather sane descriptions :D No I haven't got any corals (except maybe a gloss). Am a bit wary of them..not met a coral that works me..will definitely update if I find a usable one :D

Woww..so you are a copywriter..now I will think a million times before replying to your comments..wondering what you are going to think of my writing :P
