NARS Summer 2012 Makeup Collection - Swatches

Summer brings with it a cocktail of warm earth tones and brazen shimmers. Eyes glisten in icy peach and matte apricot, or shine in iridescent orchid and blue. Lips are subtle in a glossy nude beige pink, or bold in matte strawberry red. A delicate seashell pink lends nails a flattering hue for an overall look that’s sizzling, sophisticated and—like so many summery moments—simply unforgettable.

NARS Summer 2012 Makeup Collection Beauty Blog Swatches

The 9-piece NARS summer 2012 makeup collection launched online last week and should have started trickling into NARS counters by now.  I have been mostly immune to the NARS charm so far, staying steadfastly away from those much-raved-about blushes all this while, but I decided to do a splurge-test this time and picked up a couple of pieces from the Summer 2012 collection.  I will post reviews and looks in a bit, but for now, here are swatches from what I bought.

NARS Duo Eyeshadow Marie-Galante

Named for the Caribbean island in the Guadeloupean archipelago, this Duo Eyeshadow is an iridescent combination of orchid paired with regal blue and is at once both soft and striking. Wear layered for a look that really pops.

These are swatches on dry skin without any primer or base of any kind - I haven't tried these out yet so am reserving comments :P

NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencil - Calabria

This versatile, shimmering plum Soft Touch Shadow Pencil is the ideal complement for color on lids. Named for the region south of Naples, at the “toe” of the Italian Peninsula—it can be worn solo, as a base for powder shadows, or as a liner.

NARS Blush - Liberté

French for freedom, this versatile burnished apricot imparts a fresh, warm flush to the skin. Dust on apples of the cheeks for a sexy, carefree glow.

NARS Lipstick - Vendanges

The French word for “harvest” or “vintage” perfectly describes this sheer grape lipstick, as it conjures images of juicy, just-picked fruit off the vine.

Buenos Aires - This wear-with-anything nude beige pink Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil is named after the capital of Argentina. It combines the ease of a pencil with the finish of a gloss for a truly versatile, quintessential modern classic.

Never Say Never - Line, fill, then top with gloss—or don’t. This lilac rose Velvet Matte Lip Pencil delivers a look you’ll never say no to, however you choose to wear it.

NARS Pure Matte Lipstick - Moscow

This strawberry red Pure Matte Lipstick is as striking and sophisticated as the Russian capital that lends its name.

The collection also includes the Trouville nail polish - a seashell pink nail hue named after a fishing village in the Basse-Normandie region of northwestern France - and Ramatuelle Trio Eyeshadow - named for a village in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southeastern France.  The trio eyeshadow combines two shimmers, a silver and an icy peach, with a matte apricot for a unexpected warm-cool take on a neutral palette.  I didn't think the eyeshadow would show up at all on my skin tone, and the nail polish I had to skip with a heavy heart - there's only so much my wallet can take :P

    1. It is a pretty colour, though I didn't find it the easiest to work with. It's my first NARS blush, so it could be that I am not used to it.
