Sephora + Pantone Color of Year Eyeshadow Quad and Tangerine Tango Twist Eyeliner

Am struggling through the Sephora + Pantone collection that launched some time last month, and I am almost done with my reviews - just another piece or two to go - so partly because I am so tired of all that tangerine and also because it's just easier that way, I am reviewing the Tangerine Tango Eyeshadow Quad and the Tangerine Tango Twist Eyeliner together.

Sephora + Pantone Color of the Year Eyeshadow Quad - available here ($28)

The eyeshadow quad is generously sized, and as with all the other products in this collection, I love the packaging!  The cover fixes on with tiny magnets on the corner - kind of like the Inglot Freedom System palettes - and the palette itself is quite large.

Colours included in the set:  Scallop Shell (nude), Carnelian (orange), Sparrow (plum), Pavement (black glitter)
While I have no complaints on the packaging and certainly not on the size, what I do have a gripe with is the pigmentation of the shadows, particularly the orange one which one might say should have been the star of the show - after all that Tangerine Tangoing!!  Here's a look at the swatches:

These are swatches without any primer - so I am okay with the pigmentation levels on the other 3 shadows, and to be honest they are quite decent on primed lids, but the tangerine shade is absolutely useless, imo!  Even layered on the orange eyeliner, it doesn't do that great.

Sephora + Pantone Tangerine Tango Twist Eyeliner (available here as part of a set - $22)

This is a fun color and unlike the eyeshadow, I think the eyeliner is quite nice.  This is a retractable/twist-up pencil eyeliner and comes with a tiny sharpener at the end which does a remarkably good job of keeping the tip sharpened.

The liner goes on okay - not very soft, but it's not very difficult to work with either - and it stays put without budging.  It sets in a jiffy - I couldn't smudge it how much ever I tried - and takes a heavy duty remover to get all of it off.  It actually stains my skin, I think!!  Here's the swatch:

I haven't had much luck with the lighting here with rainy days and cloudy skies, but here's my attempt at using the Tangerine Tango eyeliner and eye shadow quad - smudged the eyeliner, topped with tangerine eyeshadow and added the plum and black shadows in the outer half.

I bought both these products as part of the Sephora + Pantone Color of the Year Collection set which I thought was a fun way to try out this color without hurting the wallet too much.  Despite the fact that I paid lesser than full price for these products, I am not too satisfied with the cost versus quality of these products.  The eyeliner is okay, and if you like the colour, this should work fine.  The tangerine eyeshadow, though, could benefit with a bit more in the pigmentation department, but it should work reasonably well on lighter skin tones with a little layering.

    1. I kind of realized at the end of all this that I should probably look at orange/rust based shades a little more closely next time...guess there might be something quite usable in MAC..since they seem to have every colour in the world there :D
