The NARS tinted moisturizer is one of newer released from the brand.  Featuring an SPF of 30/PA+++, this combines sun protection with sheer coverage of a tinted moisturizer making it the must-have product for the summers.

The reason I picked this up is most higher SPF products tend to leave a whitish cast on my skin, and while that gets sorted out with the foundation, around summers I live by the less-is-more rule with makeup!  The promise of a tinted moisturizer that features a reasonably good SPF was just too much for me to resist.

The NARS Tinted Moisturizer is available in 9 shades, and if you are buying this online, the shade descriptions provided are quite helpful and accurate.  I tried out samples of two shades from Nordstrom - Annapurna and Cuba - and finally settled on Annapurna.  Here's the swatches:

Left:  Annapurna - Medium with a neutral peachy undertone.
Right:  Cuba - Medium with a neutral balance of pink and yellow

I do think a mix of Annapurna and Cuba would be my perfect colour, but Annapurna topped with a dusting of Chanel Matte Perfection Powder foundation in Extreme gives me quite natural coverage.
The NARS Tinted Moisturizer has the consistency and feel of a light, runny lotion.  Easy to apply and fast-absorbing, it is also quite pigmented for a tinted moisturizer.  The coverage is quite sheer, but it does even out my skin a bit and definitely looks better than having just my moisturizer on.  This is an oil-free moisturizer, but I do feel it gives a bit of a sheen to the skin - not shimmer or glitter, just a sheen to the skin.  Now, ordinarily this would be quite okay, I guess, but I have had oily skin all my life, and I cannot shake off the feeling that a sheen on my face equals oily :-|  I set it with a matte powder (a powder foundation, actually), so it all evens out in the end :P

I have used this nearly every day for about 2 weeks and mostly on weekends otherwise, and I really didn't notice any reduction in hyperpigmentation.  I did not get any breakouts with this, though.  I bought this to use as a sunscreen and not for any coverage, so I am quite satisfied with it.  If sheer coverage and a broad-spectrum sun protection is what you are looking for, you would definitely like the NARS Tinted Moisturizer.

  1. This looks so lovely and natural on you! I had been hoping to try this when it first came out, but I've read that it's not the best option for oily skin. I know you said that setting it with powder fixed the "sheen" on your skin, but how did it hold up with oil-control throughout the day?

    1. It was okay..I can't say it's really bad, but I did wear it on a couple of really warm days and I found the sheen getting more pronounced as the day wore on. To be fair, this is not a foundation, so I can't really expect the finish that I get from that, but my face looked a little oily by the end of the day. On regular days, it works just fine, though :D

    2. It doesn't have anything to control the oil as such..it is oil-free, but doesn't have any mattifying properties of it's own, so if your face gets oily normally, this doesn't do anything to prevent that..that's what I feel.

    1. I haven't tried Oriflame, but Ponds I have tried on my mom..and that didn't work too well for her :P Of course, NARS is any day wayyy better than Ponds, but considering the price difference between the two, I really couldn't compare the two :D

  4. I think the coverage is excellent - and that's coming from someone with acne scarring! I usually stipple it into areas that need more coverage. I'm Indian too, but opted for Cuba as I matched my shade in the summer, so reckon I will try out a blend of Annapurna and Cuba now the sun has gone in the UK!

    1. I really should update this review..I have been using this for so long now, and yes it does give quite a bit of coverage for a tinted moisturizer! I tried out a couple of other TMs and BB creams but nothing compares to this, and now that my skin is much better, I don't even need to combine this with a foundation, except for photos :)

I should try stippling it in areas the way you have mentioned it..that should help give that extra bit of coverage. Did you know NARS will be coming out with their concealers and compact foundations some time in February/March? I am waiting for those to get to a counter :D
