Chanel Stylo Yeux Long Lasting Eyeliner in Noir Intense (available here) - $30
Waterproof, smudge-proof eyeliner delivers long-lasting definition with a twist of the wrist: Colour winds up when you need it, winds down when you don't. Gentle, soft, silicone-enriched formula delivers smooth, even lining. A built-in sharpener at the opposite end detaches for quick refreshes.
Chanel's Stylo Yeux Long Lasting Eyeliners are basic twist-up eyeliners that offer long-lasting, smudge-free color. Noir Intense is part of the newly released Les Essentiels de Chanel fall 2012 makeup collection. The liner comes with a detachable sharpener at one end and the liner at the other. The tip is retractable, so it does go back in if you accidentally (or intentionally) twist out more than you need to.
Noir Intense is a darkly pigmented black. The eyeliner is just soft enough to apply easily without tugging or pulling. The one thing I notice with black eyeliners is it's a balancing act between the softness that gives greater pigmentation and a harder texture that makes it less prone to smuding. With Noir Intense, I believe Chanel manages to find the perfect balance. It is quite black, coming pretty close to UD's Perversion (my pick for the ultimate black eyeliner), though the texture is much more firmer.
Chanel Style Yeux in Noir Intense, true to claims, is waterproof and smudge-proof - staying on my lashline until I take it off with makeup remover. On my waterline, it manages to stay on 2 to 3 hours - nothing lasts longer - and it fades gradually over time without leaving any mess. There isn't a fault I can find with this liner, and the sharpener is a bonus, helping to keep the tip sharp for a fine line.
Chanel Style Yeux Noir Intense - Dupes/Options:
Urban Decay Eyeliner in Perversion and Avon Glimmerstick in Blackest Black
All said and done, though, Noir Intense is a basic black eyeliener - a pretty good one - but it's not that easy to cough up $30 for just that, even for a a black liner fanatic like me. While I loved this liner, I did find some options which don't cost as much:Avon Glimmersticks Eyeliner in Blackest Black (available here) is an exact dupe, with the exact same twist-up mechanism but does lack the handy sharpener at the end. The texture is a little more firmer than the Chanel version, and it might be tad lighter on the waterline, but that apart, there's hardly any difference between the two. Cost: I picked this one up for less than $2.
Urban Decay's Perversion (available here) is my favorite black eyeliner. It's supersoft, gives a deep dark black at just the slightest touch, and it's waterproof and smudge proof. You do have to sharpen the pencil quite often, though, so it might suffer a bit in terms of convenience when compared to the Chanel liner. At about half the cost ($18), I wonder if that would be too much of an issue :P
Chanel's newest eyeliner - Noir Intense - is a fabulous product in terms of quality, a perfect waterproof, smudge-proof black with the added bonus of being convenient and travel-friendly. The perfect black liner if you don't mind the steep-ish price tag.

The sharpener at the back is so handy Rads. :D It definitely is expensive bt then Chanel is Chanel ;) Lovely pics. n u look great too. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jyoti.. I will definitely save the sharpener even if I don't buy the pencil :D And thank you :)
DeleteGreat pics and swatches. The eyeliner looks promising
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteWow, this is a lot darker/more pigmented then I thought it would be--and it's quite matte, I like it!
ReplyDeleteIt is very dark..and yes, matte..somehow, I wasn't expecting it to be this good either :D
DeleteLove how intense the UD one is !! Was waiting for this review and love the cute lil sharpener :D
ReplyDeleteUD is BLACK..it's almost liquidy sooty black!
Deletethe sharpener looks very functional...and i also liked how black the eyeliner turns out on you... :)
ReplyDeleteHii Ramya :) I loved the sharpener..I guess it's something a lot of liners have, but I haven't seen it very often so got all excited :D And thankoo :D
DeleteSince Perversion irritates me after a couple of hours, I might get this. I went to check out this collection on Saturday but, they did not have it :/ Said they are still waiting for it??!! :/ I really like the finish too :)
ReplyDeleteOh I remember reading your review..am so glad it doesn't irritate my eyes! I hate how collections get released in bits and pieces here and there...plus it's a fall collection turning up in summer!
DeleteLoving the Chanel coverage. Are you a Chanel ambassador?
ReplyDelete!! I wish! :D :D It's what I buy so I post..no other reason :)
DeleteRads! :) You look great with black eyeliner so I can understand why you love it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried Perversion yet (quite tempted to pick it up online actually as they don't have Urban Decay where I live)..but I have the other Chanel Stylo Yeux black liner (Ebene). It's a lot less black than Noir and you're right about the firm texture. I do find it a bit dryer and I'm more into soft and smudgy eyeliners so I don't always use Ebene.
Oh and Avon's Supershock gel liner in black is really good! It's so reasonably priced and it's a pencil but has the staying power and pigment of a gel liner. You might like it :) (Pixiwoo sisters use it sometimes).
Oh are those the newer liners from Avon? My friend was telling me about those the other day..said is pretty awesome! I love Avon eyeliners..haven't bought Avon here, though,..don't know why :-| Too many distractions I guess :P
ReplyDeleteI stopped using UD all together now..the Chanel version stays on better on my waterline (or it's just the fascination cos it's new) :D
DeleteI think the Supershock ones are somewhat new. The texture is gorgeous and you need very little to apply. I usually apply a few dots and smudge it along my lashlines with MAC's 214 brush. I always like a softer liner look so I always smudge my liners when I apply them.
DeleteThere is so much variety in the US so I can understand the "distraction" :)
Shall definitely look for the Chanel one. Thanks for the review :)
That sounds really nice..! I sort of feel smudged liners look so much better than a harsh line, though I just line and walk around like that's the way to do it :P
