Loreal Color Riche Lipstick in Nature's Blush and Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick My Mahogany - Comparison/Swatches/FOTD

Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick in My Mahogany is one of my must-have lipsticks, and it does seem quite popular going by the rave reviews it gets on every blog.  L'Oreal Color Riche lipstick in Nature's Blush, on the other hand, is a recent discovery of mine and one which, much to my own surprise, I have been reaching for quite a lot recently.  Both are peach-brown lipsticks and relatively inexpensively priced drugstore brands.  When I reviewed the L'Oreal Color Riche Lipstick in Nature's blush, Chaya left a comment asking how it would compare with Maybelline's My Mahogany - so here's a post to help anyone with a similar query decide :)

In the tube, the two look pretty much similar, but right away, I find L'Oreal Nature's Blush leans a lot to the orange/peachy side while Maybelline's My Mahogany is more of a neutral, soft peachy brown with the tiniest hint of pink to it.  Between the two, I would categorize My Mahogany as the natural/MLBB shade.

Depending on the light, though, the two can look remarkably similar in the tube.  I find the differences more obvious on swatches and on the lips - with the L'Oreal lipstick showing clear brown undertones and the Maybelline version having bit of a pink mixed in to the brown.

Between the two, I find Maybelline's My Mahogany the more easier to wear shade.  It's a soft peachy brown and the hint of pink to it, while not really obvious, makes it a much more natural/MLBB shade.  It does tend to wash out darker skin tones (at least that's what happened with me in the summers), and I think pairing it with a darker eye makeup (and/or a darker outfit) helps brighten up the face.  L'Oreal Color Riche lipstick in Nature's Blush, on the other hand, has pretty strong peachy-brown tones to it.  On me, luckily, the peach tones are much more obvious.  I call it peach, but I think it's the sort of peach that drinks a lot of orange juice :P  It's opaque and has a softer creamy finish.  It's not matte, but I don't find it overly glossy either.  If you find Maybelline's My Mahogany difficult to carry off, this might not be your favorite - I would still urge you to give it t a try, though, because a while back I was the girl who would run away from such shades :)  Oh, and both lipsticks have a strong fragrance to them.

Hope this helps - and Chaya, if you are reading this post, thanks for the comment!  On a side note, is L'Oreal discontinuing the Color Riche line or is it just insanely popular?  I was browsing around online, and I found a lot of them out of stock.

    1. I think you would notice the difference right away when you try them out in day light and not store lighting...my photos didn't really get the difference properly..but L'Oreal is definitely more orangey

  5. I love both shades but L'Oreal has got to get rid of that smell. The Maybelline smell I looove :D :D Funny though, I think My Mahogany is discontinued here or something. Just saw it once on clearance and never saw it on shelves after, not sure :(

    1. I don't have an issue with either of the smells, got used to them I guess...but I do notice it when I use them after a break. It's pretty strong isn't it? :D

Don't tell me My Mahogany is going to be discontinued...I have been wanting to pick up some dupe for it from one of the higher-end brands but I never do find anything that's perfect :( Any suggestions?

    2. I hope its not discontinued but it's no where to be seen on shelves...wags, cvs, target. From higher end brands, I think Clarins may have. I have one from the Joli Rouge line called fig but I think its a teeny bit more brown. MAC may have something maybe in their matte formula. I'm looking for something close to this too. Perfect nude for our skin tones, no?

    3. Hmm..will give the Clarins Joli Rouge a try then. Not too impressed with the MAC formula for the price - I know I would be in a teeeeny minority here..but that's just how I feel. Would rather stock up on L'Oreal over MAC :|

    4. Some of their formulas are drying on me too, like the Lustres n all. Joli Rouge is a good formula. Very comfortable...

    5. Oh okay..I was wondering if it's just me..cos I found some of their lipsticks like odd..not all, but not really consistent. Clarins seems to get pretty good reviews everywhere, so I think I will just try those instead. Will definitely give Fig a try!

  6. Wow Radhika ! Thanks for the comparison bet the two :) Both lipsticks look gorgeous on you. I'm a fan of loreal color rich lipsticks. Nature's blush is an awesome color and pretty close to my mahogany. The difference is only apparent on the hand swatch. On your lips they look pretty much the same. Thanks again for this post. I'm def going to get nature's blush!

I really hope Loreal does not discontinue the color rich range.I have tried many lipsticks (including MAC) and didn't like any of them! These are the only ones that i liked! The Loreal counter does not have all the color rich lipsticks in stock. I had to get the other shades(beige creme and tender pink) online.

  9. I have just started working, and I NEED some makeup... Atleast a nude lipstick... Reading your blog and a couple of others, I had made up my mind to get My Mahogany, and now I am lost again! Haha... Have you tried Totally Toffee? Can you just me something that is not expensive, and MLBB types, not very brown though.... My lips are slightly pigmented, I am on the fairer to wheatish side...

  10. Hmm..have you tried Revlon Colorbursts? I haven't tried any myself, but my sister seems to love the shade Rosy Nude: I found one blog where the swatches are similar to what I have seen with my sister...see if you like it :)
