Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Violet Ink (available here): $22
This award-winning liner gives you the look of liquid liner with the ease and feel of a gel formula. Long-wearing, water-resistant color glides on and let's you get it just right before it dries - then stays without a smear or crease. Won Big-Day Beauty Awards 'Martha Stewart Weddings' (May 2012). Awarded 'Best of Beauty' by 'Allure' Magazine (2012).
My Maybelline Gel Liners dried out a couple of months back, and while I don't use gel liners on a daily basis, I was looking out for replacements. I wanted to pick the MAC Fluidlines but figured I would give the much-loved Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Liners a try and picked up Violet Ink.
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eye Liner in Violet Ink, true its name, is a darkened violet purple with a very fine shimmer crushed in. I call it shimmer for a lack of a better word - there are no obvious particles of glitter here. It's more like bronze mixed in with a blackened violet.
How to Use the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner: Dip tip of a fine eyeliner brush into gel formula (coat both sides of brush head). Wipe off excess on tissue before applying to eye. Work quickly as product becomes transfer-resistant once dry.
The finish is smooth, and the lasting power is phenomenal. It's smudge-proof and stays on the whole day but comes off easily enough at the end of the day with a makeup remover. The texture in the pot seems a bit harder than the MAC Fluidlines, but on application feels the same, if not better - it's almost like a mousse. For the steepish price tag, I do hope it doesn't dry off too fast in the pot - will just have to wait and see on that. Currently, a favorite!

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Violet Ink - Swatches/FOTD
| The color isn't a bright violet, rather a blackened/smokey violet that can seem rather subdued. If you want more of the purple to show through, you can always layer on more of the product. |
My favv color.. Looks pretty..
ReplyDeleteMine too...and thank you! :)
DeleteThis is such a gorgeous colour :-)
ReplyDeleteLooks great on ur eyes :-):-):-)
But too expensive n not too easily accessible in india!
do u think fluidline in macroviolet will b close? Im buying that soon !
Sephora is supposed to be opening up some time soon, isn't it? If you stay in Delhi, you could peep in there - I soooo hope and dream that Sephora has online shopping options enabled in India too!
Deleteyes i know ! its opening up in select citywalk ! ill be their on their first day :P
Deleteu look so fresh Rads..i lov purples..am a gel liner fan too..:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Preetha :)
DeleteThough i think getting this from someone in the states wont turn out to b too expensive... Approx 1200-1300 ,even a fluidline costs 1000 bucks here.
ReplyDeleteOohh now i really want this :P
Your review has done this :P
Hii Poorva...Not tried Macroviolet but am guessing it should be similar. Maybelline's Eggplant/Aubergine is also quite similar, but that does dry up pretty fast. Not sure about the shelf life of the Bobbi Brown version either since I bought this quite recently..but the Maybelline one dried up a little too soon - but it's much more affordable.
DeleteIf you can, pick it up during one of the sales - Sephora and Bobbi Brown both might have decent discounts some time Oct-Nov..
thanks a lot for the info :) would try soon :)
Deletei bought macroviolet last week , its beautiful :) and just when i bought it , a friend returning from canada got me the maybelline gel liner in eggplant so now i have too many purples at the moment :) but i still love them :D
Deletejust wanted to share :p
Aaaaaaaah..you got both! :D :D Does Macroviolet look similar to this one..I am guessing it does na? The Maybelline liner dries out pretty fast, so try using that first..
DeleteYes its similar but lighter than this!
DeleteOh thanks for the tip :):):)
Oh I saw it on your blog just now :D Am sure both of them would look awesome on you! :)
DeleteAww thats so sweet of you :) thank u :)
Deletepretty! love ur lip color :) which is it?
ReplyDeleteHi Parita..it's Maybelline Color Sensational Summer Sunset sheered and topped with Chanel Troublant (it's a pinkish-brownish gloss). MAC Lipglass in Restless should be similar, I think..
DeleteAnd thank you! :D
Deletevery nice shade...looks pretty on u..
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tejinder :)
DeleteWoohooo!! looks great. I am loving the color.
ReplyDeleteRadhika - I have the exact same earring you are wearing...yet to receive it officially :)
Haaa...yet to receive it officially? Did you find the birthday gift hidden away under the bed?? :D
ReplyDeleteThat thick line of violet on your upper lashline looks SO fab--it especially stands out since you went pretty simple with everything else. Love it!
ReplyDeleteLOL..I wish!! But this is presented during the wedding to the girl...from the mother..some custom. So until I get married it's in the locker :D I love taking it out and seeing it once in a while!!
ReplyDeleteAaah okayy :D :D We don't have such lovely customs..I need to have a talk with my mom :|
DeleteThis is such a gorgeous color! I've heard great things about BB gel liners but haven't tried one ever, I'm loyal to my Fluidline... how would you say their formula compares to MAC's, particularly in terms of finish? I'm finding my Fluidline looks a bit too dry on my eyelids, even though the product hasn't dried up in the pot at all. :/
ReplyDeleteHi Radhika. This is a beautiful colour and suits you. Do keep us posted on if it dries like the Maybelline liners
ReplyDeleteNo. Its given to us during the wedding. Right now I am allowed to "see" it sometimes :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful color. Thanks for posting this. I'm going to check it out.
ReplyDeleteSo curious to know if it dried out like the Maybelline product you used previously? Thanks for your blog; I love it!
ReplyDeleteIt is starting to dry out now :( Not as bad as my Maybelline ones but not as good as the MAC Fluidlines. This is the only Bobbi Brown Gel liner I have, and I am not sure if this is drying out faster because of the shimmer in it..but I think I would stick to MAC for now - so far, I found it a fair balance between quality and pricing..
DeleteAnd, thank you so much!!! :D
