On My Nails Today: Chanel Le Vernis Malice (Holiday 2012 Makeup Collection)

Chanel Le Vernis Malice (available HERE) - $26

Part of the Eclats du Soir de Chanel Holiday 2012 makeup collection, the nail polish Malice was the only piece I picked up from this collection.  The rest of the collection seemed just too basic/dupeable, though, I am still a bit tempted by the glossimers.  Back to the nail polish, Malice has a deep, dark, rich red base with red shimmer mixed into it.  Unlike some of Chanel's other nail colors where the shimmer is more obvious in the bottle than on the nail, Malice has the shimmer seen and shining through the formula even on the nails.  The color is opaque with a single coat and goes on smoothly with no streaking or bubbling, but you do need 2 or 3 coats for the best finish and to let the shimmer show through better.  Scroll on for photos.

While the color might look scary dark in the bottle (or on the brush), Chanel's Malice translates into a beautiful, rich color on my nails and actually makes my hands look a lot brighter.  The shimmer is very subtle and is sort of embedded in the glossy base rather than showing up as a frosty/glittery finish.  Because it's a darker colour, Malice does need a bit of an extra effort with clean up, especially if you aren't perfect with your application, but it's nothing a tiny brush and some nail polish remover cannot sort out!

I have always loved darker, red nail polishes on others but never found one that works for my skin tone.  Most invariably look too loud and/or make my hands look terribly old and dry.  Not so with Malice - it strikes the perfect balance between dark nails and festive shimmer and is something I will be wearing quite often this winter.  It is a definite must-have (and back-ups too!) nail polish from Chanel.
