Neutrogena Wave Power Cleanser: Review

Neutrogena Wave Power Cleanser is clinically proven to deliver softer, smoother skin after just one use! At the click of a button, the battery operated facial cleanser delivers 10 times deeper cleansing than conventional manual cleansing. The ergonomically-designed system applicator comes with disposable, one time- use foaming pads that can be refilled.  The Neutrogena Wave Power Cleanser has a 3-way action:  The textured foaming pads gently sweep away layers of dead skin cells to reveal noticeably smoother and softer skin.  Gentle vibrating motion of the system applicator massages skin. You will feel your pores open for deep cleansing.  Lather removes dirt, oil and makeup while awakening your senses.

I had wanted to try the Neutrogena Wave cleanser for a while, but for some reason or the other it just kept getting put off - my sister got me one on her way back from UK, but my mom misplaced the packet - and then I moved to the US, and well, let's just say, makeup has kept me busy :P  I finally got around to buying the Neutrogena Wave cleanser last month, and after trying it out for about a month, here's my review on it.

I bought the Neutrogena Wave Original, and the pack I bought contained 14 cleanser pads along with the cleanser, and a battery was included in the package.

The gadget part of the Neutrogena Wave cleanser is quite compact. There is a cleanser head where you attach the cleanser pad.  The rounded design fits perfectly sunggly into the hand, and a press of the button activates the gentle vibrating mechanism which, supposedly, helps with the cleansing.  The Wave is water resistant, so it's easy to use and clean.

How to Use the Neutrogena Wave Cleanser:  Attach disposable pad.  Hold it under running water.  Turn it on and gently massage your face. Rinse your face and wipe it clean.

My Thoughts on the Neutrogena Wave Cleanser:  I used the cleanser just as directed, and it is pretty simple and easy to use.  The gadget is water resistant, and I haven't had any issues with water getting to the inside of it or to the battery so far.  Since I don't step out of the house or use makeup on a daily basis, I don't feel the need to use this daily and alternate this with my other cleanser(s).  As far as effectiveness of the cleanser and/or the vibrations:  The cleanser is very, very gentle, and it doesn't have too much of a lather.  Despite that, though, it does an excellent job at taking off all the dirt/makeup from my face, so the lack of much visible lather doesn't really bother me at all - in fact, I have a feeling it might be less drying to the skin too because of that.  The vibratory effect is like a mini-massage for my face, and it does feel nice.  Overall, I find this a welcome change from the same-old face wash routine, and as far as cleansers go, the Neutrogena Wave is among the better ones I have tried.  It doesn't irritate my skin and leaves it clean.  The packaging and design (since it's all dry and battery operated) also makes it perfect for travel.  So, is the Neutrogena Wave right for you?  Here's a few things that might help you decide:
  • In my opinion, since this does a little more intensive cleaning, the Wave would work better for oily skin and/or skin that really needs a lot of dirt or makeup taken off than the dry/normal skin types.
  • Also because it does more of a deep cleaning, I generally don't use this on a daily basis - every other day seems sufficient for me - sort of like how I would use a scrub.  And, I would NOT use a scrub after this.
  • Going over the face once or twice with the cleanser device is sufficient.  Excess cleaning does not equal better skin with this device.  In fact, if you have sensitive skin, it might leave your skin feeling a little irritated if you use this for too much time.  The vibrations feel nice, but don't overdo it.

    1. I have sensitive skin too..but it generally reacts to whatever it feels like, no real logic :P Anyway, I don't use this on a daily basis, so it doesn't really irritate my skin either. Isn't microdermabrasion too harsh for sensitive skin? I always stay away from any product with that in the name just cos I am too scared to try :|
