Chanel Nail Polish May: Review, NOTD

Chanel Le Vernis May (available here) - $26

Chanel Le Vernis in May released a while back as part of Chanel's Spring 2012 range.  I picked up June when it was released, and while I liked May, I didn't buy it until about a month or so back.  It's a beautiful bright pink color - not really a bubble gum pink, but bright nevertheless.  While in daylight it is a beautiful girly pink, indoors it does tend to look a tad too bright for my darker hands :P   It's a beautiful glossy finish, though, and I think it would look lovely on most hands :)

Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lipstick Enjouee: Review, Swatches, FOTD.

Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lipstick in Enjouee (available here) - $34

Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense lipsticks are the next generation of lipsticks from the brand.  The new formula features concentrated, ultra-thin pigments that offer radically intense colour with full coverage and a satin finish.  Leaves lips supple and protected with lasting comfort.  Enjouee is a pink coral shade from this new range.

The packaging is the same as the old Rouge Allure lipsticks, but the formula does seem a bit different.  The finish is satin, as Chanel describes it, and it's almost similar to the Rouge Allure Velvet, with just a tad more shine to it.  All the lipsticks I have tried from this range are extremely pigmented, and Enjouee is no exception.  It's a bright coral pink and is just a bright pop of color.

Only while I was taking the photos did I notice there is fine shimmer in the lipstick, but it's not seen on the swatches at all.

Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lipstick - Enjouee
I am not a fan of the Rouge Allure Velvets, and the Rouge Allure Intense lipsticks feature a similar finish - less of a creamy finish and more of a satin texture.  The texture seems to vary slightly between colors, but in general lighter colors like Enjouee seem better suited for perfectly prepped lips.  Any slight flakiness gets noticed, and for a dry-lipped person like me, that's a problem!  I used a lip brush to apply the color and found the application much smoother.  The lipstick doesn't dry out my lips or settle into lines, though.  The pigmentation is rich and opaque, and the bright color looks just as beautiful if applied sheered out (or as it fades).  The lasting power is about 3 hours, and it fades with meals but leaves a tint.

MAC Crosswires - Chanel Enjouee:  Comparison

The first thing I thought when I swatched Enjouee was that it might be an exact dupe for MAC's popular lipstick Crosswires.  Both are pink-coral lipsticks and have a similar finish (MAC Crosswires is much more creamy).  On side-by-side swatches/photos though, MAC Crosswires is just a tad darker while Chanel Enjouee is a more vibrant, brighter coral pink - Crosswires features more coral while Enjouee has more pink.  I still think, though, that you could use one instead of the other and get away with it, and at a little less than half the price of a Chanel, MAC Crosswires would be an affordable dupe for this color imo :D

Overall, the new Chanel Rouge Allure Intense in Enjouee is a beautiful bright coral pink that is sure to brighten any skin tone but would look best on the lighter skin tones.  Personally, I am not used to wearing bright shades, so this does take a bit of an effort to step out of the house with.  The Rouge Allure Intense lipsticks have enough pigmentation to look pretty even sheered out, and it's an easier way to wear bright shades such as Enjouee.  If you prefer creamy/glossier finishes, you might prefer Rouge Coco Shines, but Rouge Allure Intense lipsticks would score in terms of their awesome pigmentation.

Pantene Aqua Light Shampoo and Conditioner: Review

Pantene Aqua Light Shampoo and conditioner - Fresh, clean, and light for weightless care. Silicone-free shampoo and water-soluble conditioner rinse clean in seconds with no heavy buildup. Leaves hair refreshed and light, for a flawless clean.

I generally tend to avoid silicone-based shampoos and conditioners because a lot of them irritate my scalp.  Pantene's Lively Clean shampoo is one of my favorites, though, for leaving my hair shiny and healthy, so when I saw travel sizes of the Pantene Aqua Light range at Target, I decided to give it a try.  The Aqua Light range features silicone-free shampoo and easy-to-wash off conditioner that leaves hair clean without any residue.

Pantene Aqua Light Shampoo Conditioner Haircare Silicone Free Reviews Ingredients Indian Beauty Blog

The clear shampoo and the creamy white conditioner both have a pleasant, clean-Pantene smell to them.  The shampoo was a big disappointment for me.  I try to oil-treat my hair before washing, and this was just too mild to be of any use!  It does a decent job on regular hair but nothing spectacular.  The issue, I guess, is with my hair type - thick and frizz prone.  This just doesn't seem to be made for my kind of hair, but I suspect it would work perfect for anyone with fine hair who needs a light clean.  The conditioner fares only slightly better.  It's easy to wash off but does nothing in terms of detangling my hair or taming the frizz.  Overall, I like the silicone-free concept and the ease with which the products get washed off without leaving any build-up, but these just don't seem to work for my hair :(

I would probably just stick to the regular Pantene versions which work just fine on my hair.  If you have light/fine hair and want to try something that won't weigh your hair down yet is gentle, you might want to give this a try.   Get one of these travel sizes if you can so you won't be stuck with a bigger bottle in case you don't like it :P

Friday Face of The Day: Brown Smokey Eyes with a Hint of Green

Up until about a month or so ago, I was wondering if there was much of a summer here - sunny California seemed to have a pretty pale summer! All that has changed now, though, and all I want to do on weekends is crank up the AC and sleep..okay the second part isn't really weather-related :P  The makeup world seems to be on another planet, though, with fall/holiday collections popping all over the place, and it got me wanting to try out one of autumn's staple trends - a smoky eye with brown and green/teal.  (Fall makeup trend to look out for:  A brighter take on the smokey eye with colors such as brown, purple, blue, and green for a pop of color to offset the dark  eye.)

FOTD Brown Green Teal Smoky Eye Makeup Fall Trends Indian Beauty Blog
I used a forest green gel liner as a base all over my lids.  Used a dark brown pencil close to the lash lines and on the waterline.  Used a darker brown shadow all over the lid and patted a teal shadow in the inner half to give it a greenish sheen.  Used the lighter beige shade to blend near the crease and finished with my favorite black mascara.  I should have paired it with a coral lip but went a beige route with Maybelline My Mahogany topped with Chanel Sweet Beige.

Maybelline Forest gel liner; Chanel Eyeliner in Brun Intense; Chanel Eyeshadow Duo Sable-Emouvant; Maybelline MegPlush Mascara.  The line teal shadow in the photo actually came off an old Chanel quad (Birds of Paradise) that I rarely use yet somehow managed to break apart :-|
So, what did you try out makeup-wise this week?

Urban Decay Eye Shadows (available here) - $18

The newly reformulated eye shadows from Urban Decay feature soft velvety texture, decadent color, uniform pigment distribution and blendability, and long-lasting crease-free wear. This is my final installation of the swatches from this collection - this time it's the blues, greens, and a couple of grey-blacks.  Fun fact:  Packaging of the new shadows was inspired by NYC subway tokens; the chromed gunmetal compact with a clear window allows you to see your shade and pop your shadows out and into one of the new customizable palettes.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Yummy Plummy

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Yummy Plummy - $5

Available in 68 captivating shades, Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks are some of the best drugstore lipsticks.  I have been trying out a couple of shades from this range - most of them plum/pink - and so far, they have all delivered in terms of pigmentation and creamy texture.  The shade I am reviewing today is Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick in Yummy Plummy - a creamy plum shade with absolutely no shimmer in it.  Read on for photos and swatches.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Yummy Plummy - Swatches/FOTD

This lipstick is a brownish plum in the tube, though for some reason my skin swatches all seem more bright.  On my lips, this is the perfect neutral mauve, the hint of brown keeping it from getting too bright.  Much as I love the occasional bright lip, it's always these soft neutral shades that I reach for the most, and I am so glad I found this neutral plum.  As with all Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks, this too has a toffee-caramel fragrance to it (which just makes it all the more yummy), and the texture is smooth and nondrying.

MAC Ready to Roam Tinted Lipglass (Styleseeker Collection): Review

MAC Ready to Roam Tinted Lipglass (available here) - $15

MAC Styleseeker collection launched online this week and among the many fall-inspired pieces in this collection are four tinted lipglasses.  I picked up two of these - Restless that I have reviewed earlier and Ready to Roam.  MAC describes Ready to Roam as a mid-tone true blue red.  The color is quite opaque for a lipgloss, and with hardly any shimmer mixed in there's a lot of depth to the color.  The liplass has the signature MAC vanilla smell to it, which makes it all the more yummy :D  Read on for photos and swatches:

MAC Ready to Roam is quite a pigmented red but not really one that is difficult to wear.  It doesn't need a liner underneath it at all (though you might want one for extra staying power) and applies evenly.  This can be applied sheered out so some of the natural lip color shows through or more opaque for an effortless red lip.  I have applied it somewhat sheer, and my natural lip color is making it look more pink in the photo than it actually is.  The lasting power is also quite impressive, and it leaves a faint tint behind on my lips even when I wipe it off.  Overall, I would definitely list Ready to Roam as one of the must-haves from the Styleseeker collection, especially if you want to ease into the red lip trend for fall :)

MAC Tinted Lipglass in Restless (Styleseeker Collection): Review

MAC Tinted Lipglass in Restless (available here) - $15

Part of the newly launched MAC Styleseeker collection, the tinted lipglass in Restless is described by MAC as a dark burnt bronze.  There is very fine bronze-gold shimmer scattered throughout, but it just adds to the high-shine finish of the lipglass rather than seeming gritty or chunky.  A simple doe-foot applicator makes application of this vanilla-scented lipgloss a breeze.  Read on for photos and swatches:

MAC's tinted lipglass in Restless is a reddish bronze color.  The pigmentation is quite impressive for a lipgloss, and I can use it on it's own without any lipliner beneath it.  This vanilla-scented lipgloss applied evenly and lasted the 3 hours that I tested it for - didn't last through my lunch after that :P

Because it is a lipgloss, the darker color sheers out with a hint of my natural lip color showing through.

I am not sure if this color is similar to any other lipglass/gloss from MAC's pretty extensive collection, but I don't own very many glosses and certainly not one in this color.  For me, this is an effortless way to use the darker colors of fall any time of the year.

MAC Hidden Treasure Blush (Styleseeker Collection): Review

MAC Powder Blush in Hidden Treasure (available here) - $20

Part of the fall-inspired MAC Styleseeker Collection that launched online this week (in stores August 23), MAC Hidden Treasure Powder Blush is described by as a "Rich Burnt Red."  This is my first blush from MAC so I was clueless on what to expect in terms of finish and pigmentation.  The darker color and the lack of any obvious shimmer is what made me pick this, and I am so glad I did!

This rich reddish-brown blush has enough pigmentation to show up on my dark skin without making my skin look splotchy or irritated.  The blush is a matte finish - at least there's no shimmer or sheen that I could detect - yet it doesn't look dull or flat.  Read on for more photos and swatches.

NARS Liberte Blush (coral-red, lighter) Versus MAC Hidden Treasure (brownish red)
My photos haven't really done justice to how pigmented MAC Hidden Treasure blush is - I needed only the slightest touch with a stippling blush for this to show up on my darker Indian skin tone!  This is easily the most pigmented blush I own.  I found it easy enough to blend, and it stayed on the whole day. Definitely a must-have blush from MAC, especially for the warmer-toned/dark-skinned people out there.

MAC Fluidline Local Wares (Styleseeker Collection) Review

MAC Fluidine in Local Wares (available here) - $15

MAC Fluidlines are some of my favorite makeup products, but I don't own very many of them.  The newly launched MAC Styleseeker collection features four of these Fluidlines including an old favorite of mine - Dark Diversion.  The first one to hop into my shopping basket, though, was Local Wares.

MAC Styleseeker Makeup Collection Fluidline Local Ware Indian Beauty Blog Reviews Swatches FOTD EOTD Looks Ingredients

MAC describes this fluidline as "dirty olive with multidimensional shimmer."  What can I say - that won me over!  From the smooth application to the smudge-free long-lasting line, Local Wares has the typical winning formula of a Fluidline.  The darkened, almost black olive green color has very fine shimmer mixed that gives a life to the color without being glittery/shimmery as such.

MAC Fluidline Local Wares - Swatches/FOTD

I have swatched Local Wares alongside Maybelline's Blackest Black - Local Wares is a darkened olive that's almost black with a hint of shimmer.  On my eyes, the shimmer is a little more visible than in the swatch, but it's very subtle.

Overall, a great pick if you are looking for a soft dark liner.  The shimmer is hardly visible, which makes it appropriate for work but not for use on the waterline :)  To prevent drying out, always keep your Fluidline tightly capped and store upside down.
