Chanel Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eyeshadow Raffinement (available here) - $59
One essential compact offers unlimited eye looks, with shade combinations that range from matte to satin to shimmer. This versatile smudge-proof formula can be applied dry for subtle shading or dampened for more intense colour, all with long-wearing results in even extreme climates. Dermatologist tested. Chanel Eyeshadow Quad Raffinement is part of the Printemps Precieux de Chanel Spring 2013 Makeup Collection.| On my eyes: Chanel Eyeshadow Quad in Raffinement (used the taupe-brown shade on the top left all over eyelid and along the lower lash line and a bit of the lower right dark brown shade on the corners) Also used: Chanel Brun Intense along lashline, Chanel Joues Contraste blush in Frivole (also part of the spring 2013 makeup collection), L'Oreal lipstick in Nature's Blush |

Ever since I bought my first Chanel makeup (a pressed powder, I think) about 3 years ago, I have found a lot of products to love in this brand, but one thing I had decided never ever to buy again was Chanel's eyeshadow quad! In India, the eye shadow quads are round pans - baked versions - and for the life of me I cannot understand why Chanel sells such overpriced, underpigmented...okay, enough of the rant - you get the point, don't you? I do not like them. Turns out, the US versions - squares - are a whole different species, softer, much better color payoff, and generally very beautiful! With it's mix of lovely, neutral, brown shades, Raffinement - the new eye shadow quad in Chanel's spring lineup - was an instant must-have for me.

its full of greiges it seems...very wearable but I am upset as Chanel US has more product size to offer than Chanel India...will be buying some blushes for sure though.
ReplyDeleteBtw how have u been?
Oh ya the sizes are different too, aren't they? Even their blushes are a powder version here and a baked version in India. I really cannot understand why a brand like Chanel would alter quality depending on the region like that!!!
DeleteBeen busy..work..overworked :P :D
DeleteRaffinement is a great look for you. Did you apply a black liner with it? Raffinement fills a color niche in my collection since I usually buy warmer colors. The lightest color "highlights" under the brow, but without any perceptible color, i.e. it doesn't look pink at all. If I put on too much, it's just a gash of silver. I use Chanel Illusion D'Ombre "Emerveille" instead. I did a photo comparison of Raffinement and Kaska Beige (I hope you don't mind that I've said so) and they are clearly very different, and even more so when applied. I'm really disappointed that Chanel discontinued Kaska Beige, my perfect neutral. I hope they change their mind.
ReplyDeleteAlong my upper lash line? No not a black liner, but I did apply a black eye shadow with a liner brush very close to the lashes..I feel it looks a bit bare without the help :P :D Ya it looks like a "gash of silver" on me too if I add in too much, otherwise barely any color. Oh you have Kaska Beige!! That is so awesome..I looked around everywhere for it after seeing Sabrina's swatch, but it seem to have truly disappeared forever :( Do leave a link to your post here if you can - I would love to read/see it! I so hope they change their mind about it...it does look the perfect brown...
ReplyDeleteI checked your profile but couldn't find a link there
DeleteMy link is here. Thanks for asking! I bought Grenat, a medium brown, to wear with Raffinement, but I like how the black shadow looks in your photo. When using Kaska Beige, I line with a black Armani pencil first (not the waterproof one), then apply the eyeshadow over it. That lined area looks darker but not obviously lined. I bought two back ups of Kaska Beige after completely using all four shades in my first one. I'll let you know if I find any others for sale.
ReplyDeleteOh your photos seem much more true to color!! I want want wantttttttttttttttt Kaska Beige..is just awesome..pls do let me know if you find one somewhere! It's beautiful - thanks for sharing the link :)
DeleteI do that black liner thing too a lot of times..everything looks much better that way, doesn't it? :D
DeleteYour photos look "true" on my computer screen. The black liner trick is genius!
DeleteThanks, Celine! I wasn't too sure about it - was sitting on the review for a while hoping to get some better pics but didn't get the time..the black liner is my savior for everything :D I look sleepy without it!
DeleteHi! I've never commented before but wanted to let you know I think this is your prettiest FOTD to date! The colors really suit you and that lipcolor is perfect! You are beautiful and I enjoy your blog immensely.
