Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner Santal - $30
Waterproof, smudge-proof eyeliner delivers long-lasting definition with a twist of the wrist: Colour winds up when you need it, winds down when you don't. Gentle, soft, silicone-enriched formula delivers smooth, even lining. A built-in sharpener at the opposite end detaches for quick refreshes. Line and define the upper and lower eyelids based on eye shape and desired makeup result. Apply using short feathery strokes, staying close to the lashline for a modern effect. Chanel Stylo Yeux Eyeliner Santal is part of the Printemps Precieux de Chanel Spring 2013 Makeup Collection.Wearing Chanel Stylo Yeux Eyeliner Santal smudged along upper lash line and outer half, lower lash line. |
Part of the recently launched Chanel Spring 2013 makeup collection, Santal is a shimmery brown twist-up eyeliner pencil that is also waterproof/smudge-proof - what's not to like about that?!! The brown base has a shimmery sheen mixed into it. I call it shimmer, but there are no obvious particles or glitter as such. There is a teeny sharpener of sorts on one end of the pencil that can be detached and used whenever you want to (I have hardly ever used that so far - should remember to use it more often). The pencil itself feels a bit hard to apply, especially on the eyelid. To get slightly easier color payoff, just swipe a few lines on the back of your hand to slightly warm and soften the pencil tip. It glides on smoothly, but because of the harder texture, the color payoff isn't as much as it would seem on my hand. True to it's claims, Santal is waterproof and quite the budge-proof liner, and removal does require a decent makeup remover capable of handling tougher waterproof makeup to get this one off.
Santal seems a gorgeous brown on swatches on my hand. Depending on the light around, the shimmer/sheen present in the liner picks up the light and reflects, making the color look a warmer brown. Under cooler lighting, though, the color might seem a darker dull/taupey brown. As I mentioned earlier, the pencil is a bit hard and the color payoff isn't as much on my eyelids. Here's a look at the swatches and comparisons with a few other browns from Chanel.
Chanel Stylo Yeux Longlasting Waterproof Eyeliner - Santal Swatch under bright (warmer) natural light looks more bronze-brown. |
Swatches under cooler/diffuse natural lighting - looks darker because there is no light reflecting off the shimmer. |
Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner - Santal - FOTD Nothing happened to my eye - it's just the very weird lighting at my place :( |

dats a nice pencil but very light and natural. One complaint was that the pencils dry up very fast inside the tube.
ReplyDeleteits looks amazing though...
Ya..It doesn't show up that well on me, especially in photos! Oh I haven't had issues with pencils drying up inside the tube so far..neither Chanel nor Avon - those are the only 2 brands I have tried but pretty much cover a spectrum of costs na :D
DeleteThat is a very pretty shade.. but I doubt whether it will show up on me !!
ReplyDeleteThese brown-khaki-bronzey shades are all the same on me...yet I keep stocking up on them :|
DeleteRadhika M, all these hues look really great on your skintone! Thanks for sharing XOXO
ReplyDeleteThanks, Trina!
DeleteThe colour looks exactly like the Bourjois effet smokey in brown...that has the same bronzy sheen. And it is softer and easier to apply though it is not totally waterproof. But it costs a lot less too ;)
ReplyDeleteBourjois has some lovely colors/products! I should stock up when I come to India...don't find it here in stores, and I amn't that keen on online shopping. As it is I spend enough on products I get from stores without having additional online bills :D :D Generally, waterproof pencils tend to be harder than the non ones - UD is the only exception I have seen to that rule! Their pencils are soooooooo soft and sooo stubborn!!
DeleteWhen will UD come to India? I think it's available at Sephora but that's in Delhi and I'm in Mumbai :( I really, really, REALLY want their eye pencils and of course, the Naked 2 palette.
DeleteRadsss.. Happy new year :)
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I bought in 2013 (yess..:P) was a matte brown eye pencil from Faces.. Loving it !! But it doesnt show up that well on my eyelids.. but still I keep applying it daily :D
And am so hooked to brown eyeliner now that black looks made-up now :P
Naina...I got those side clippppppps seeing your photee..now pls tell me how to use them...is not standing on my head :|
Deletehehehee.. side part your hair.. and take a little from the side you wanup on the scalp a little up and put the pin.. u want me to show video ? :P :P :P
DeleteHmmmmmmmmmmmph...I tried that only..same to same..pin floatign up with my hair..me try again when my hair little quieter. I just washed it na yesterday and tried this soon as it dried. Probably the worst time :(
Deleteareyy what my curly haired friend does is.. when the hair is wet noo.. she just combs the front part a little and then puls and pins it up to the side, makes it more manageable.. you can try next time with wet hair..
ReplyDeleteYa makes sense to do that...me try that next and report :D
Deleteyess yess soldier :P
ReplyDeleteYes..complete with that Soldier Soldier song in the background too :P Am sure Bobby Deol had some similar hairstyle also :D :D
Deleteyou knoww whatt?? I have been trying to learn the fishtail braid since ages now.. every night I sit with some youtube tutorial, create a mess of a hairstyle, pull out handfuls of hair with all the tugging and finally get irritated and leave it! :| wish somebody did a fishtail braid for me.. it looks so pretty :(
ReplyDeleteHaww..that tho is suppppperrrrrrrr easy..I mean not easy easy kinds..but you have such obedient hair..it should be easy. I used to do it earlier..even with my crazy cuckoo hair..but that time my hair was thicker and it used to look really nice too (or so I thought :P) Anyway..don't laugh too much at me..but I find it easier to do if I close my eyes and do..if I keep looking somewhere - mirror/instructions/anything..my fingers move differnently..
Deletehehheee.. soldier movie was epic :P you have a nice imagination :P ou remember the weird character and his dog who had the same hairstyle? :P
ReplyDeleteNo I haven't seen that movieewwwwwwww...I only saw the song and that was enough for me...Tintin? Or was there some character like that in the movie?? I couldn't sit through the song only..so didn't bother with the movie
Deletei donno.. have been trying so much..i ll also try and do the closed eyes trick, hope it works.. but i cant figure out the movement.. one from this to that side and repeat .. not happening. :P
ReplyDeleteIt is thoda confusing..is true! Hey you aren't posting any more of your food, fashion, ramblings thingie? Don't tell me you found something better to do in life?
Deletenoooo.. I haven't found anything better nor will ever, I guess :P
