Part of the new NARS Spring 2013 makeup collection, Dressed to Kill is a soft, rose-red lipstick with a healthy dose of fine golden shimmer mixed in. NARS describes the color as 'fuchsia with gold shimmer' which sounds a lot more brighter and pinker than what this lipstick actually is.
Dressed to Kill is not too matte, yet not really glossy - and I can definitely feel the shimmer as I apply the lipstick. The color payoff is opaque, and it's quite longlasting too, leaving behind a stain even when it fades off (even on my hand after I wiped away the swatch). I am not a fan of shimmer in lipsticks, but Dressed to Kill manages to make it work. It's very subtle and not really obvious on the lips, though it does tend to stay around even when the lipstick fades. Here's a look at the swatch.

The rose-red color makes the NARS Dressed to Kill lipstick a perfect pick for anyone who wants something like a red lip but not quite as strong. This rose-red version is softer, subtler, and can be worn sheered out for an easy day time look and just as easily intensified for a stronger lip. I prefer applying this with a lip brush to give a sheerer effect. The color is opaque enough to cover my uneven lip pigmentation even with a sheer application. Here's how it looks on me.

DeleteRads, this lipstick is so pretty. I'm definitely going to swatch it if I see it around.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of lipsticks, have you tried MAC's Prep + Prime Lip Primer? The MUA at my faovurite MAC store recommended it to me because I tend to have dry lips and wearing lipsticks for a long time is tricky. I usually have to reapply lip balm and then the lipstick at least twice a day after applying it in the morning. But with the primer, I only reapply it once a day and even if I don't, the colour fades evenly if I use a lip pencil on top of the primer. Do try it if you can as it makes lipsticks glide so beautifully on top.
My lips are just the same...I need a lip balm some time through the day and then reapply. I have heard some pretty good things about the Prep + Prime..but I also read it dries out lips (which sort of didn't make sense..but anyway).
DeleteOh..no..wait.I am mixing u p stuff..I think that's something called a Lip Erase (?)..
Deletemy pick from your haul would be this .... how pretty it is looking Radhika M ( :P :P :P .... you called me indyabeauty na ?? )
ReplyDeletehow about this with CHANEL merveille ?? (the plum gloss sorry but pls spell check although i did )am sure they both would look absolutely mouthwatering ... am sure this is the first thing you would do today ...
forget gloss ... the lipstick itself is looking prettyyyy on you :)
Oh, I was just trying to be as polite as you were! :D
DeleteHmm..I think those two would look great - will let you know when I try! Naaah not today...today tho nangu lip I tried :P
Rads... how would you compare nars lippies to MAC?
ReplyDeleteI want to get a YSL and something else....
It's a little difficult to compare the two since the price points are different, plus I haven't tried very many to comment on them either. MAC has a lovely color selection, but I think their textures vary between lipsticks..
DeleteYou could give YSL Glossy Stains a try - a lot of ppl absolutely rave about them, and they have lovely colors.
