From the Book Shelf: The Sartorialist by Scott Schuman

Book Review - The Sartorialist by Scott Schuman Fashion Blogger Street Style Photographer
"I hope that, as you look at the images in this book, rather than giving a look a 'thumbs up' or a 'thumbs down',
you will focus on the elements that could inspire you.  Maybe you'll find inspiration in a colour combination,
or maybe in a play on textures or a mix of genres, for example 'punk meets eskimo'.  I like people to draw their
own conclusions, to find their own inspiration without the influence of a guiding hand."

- Scott Schuman, The Sartorialist
I am not a fashion-obsessed person - quite the opposite, in fact, with my weekend outings mostly limited to grocery shopping and a wardrobe that reflects just that.  Yet, The Sartorialist is one of my favorite blogs and has been on my reading list for years.  A while back, I mentioned the blog to a then friend of mine, and her first comment was "Oh, but everything is so expensive there!"  As someone who cannot recognize brands unless the tag is hanging off it and won't know how to pronounce half the names anyway, that was something I hadn't noticed until she (now a fashion blogger who wears equally beautiful/expensive clothes herself) mentioned it.  That is what I love about Scott Schuman, though.  His pictures are just that - photos for you to interpret in any way you like, with no labels or name droppings to influence you - and that is perhaps the reason he has such a universal appeal.

The book is just like the blog that I originally liked and loved, full of beautiful photos minus the pretentiousness.   Do pick it up if you like fashion, photography, or just plain people watching :D

While on the topic of awesome street-style/fashion photography, do check another favorite of mine:  Wearabout by Manou.

  4. I am not much into fashion too but that doesn't mean I wear crap :p I do decent dressing that I am comfortable in.

As you said even I have seen a couple of people who can hardly pronounce or even recognize a brand and they know it is a high-end brand only after they see the price tag !! Funny thing is they don't accept it.. ;)

Hope I get a chance to read this book :)
