|Hanae Mori Eau de Parfum Spray ($68)|
A lot of times I pick up perfumes without thinking/knowing much about them, either because I found the bottle design particularly intriguing or perhaps because it's just such a raved about perfume. With Hanae Mori Butterfly, I had a voucher that I got as part of a Sephora perfume set, and I could exchange it for a full size perfume, and to this day, I have no idea what made me pick this up. I suspect it was the name that fascinated me - there was just something about it - and the clean simple lines of the bottle. For anyone who might be just as new to perfume houses as I am, Hanae Mori is a Japanese fashion designer (currently retired) - the only Japanese woman designer to have presented her collections in Paris and New York, the first Asian woman to be officially recognized as a haute couture designer, and considered an icon of liberated woman because of her successful career (all thanks to Wikipedia). Her style inspiration is a butterfly, and that carries on to this fragrance that she has created.

Fragrance Notes - Strawberries, Bilberries, Black Currant, Bulgarian Rose, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Sandalwood, Almond, Praline.
Fragrance Style - Unique for any occasion.
Introduced in 1996, Hanae Mori Butterfly Eau de Parfum is a subtle blend of berries and flowers, with a distinctive tone of strawberries and almond, giving an impression of vanilla though there is no vanilla listed in the fragrance notes. The bottle's top is distinctly made from glass, a first for any fragrance. The top represents the beauty and delicate shape of a butterfly with folded wings. This is a perfume for those who like light, sweet perfumes. I amn't a huge fan of overly sweet fragrances, but there is something clean and simple about Hanae Mori Butterfly that makes it quite wearable. A spritz of this perfume leaves me with hints of fruity sweetness that lasts all day. I like wearing this during the cooler fall months, but with a light hand, this can be a classic fragrance to wear any time of the year. I have read reviews describing the smell as "delicious," and I would have to agree. The creamy sweet fragrance won't really make you smell like a cake, but if you don't like vanilla/foodie sort of smells, you might not like this one.
