It's been a while since I reviewed a Chanel blush - haven't really bought one after the cream blushes. This weekend, while browsing through the Nordstrom beauty counters, I spotted a new (at least to me) Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush - Emotion (87). I am not even sure if this is just a random new release or if it is part of the fall/winter/holiday 2013 collection. Emotion is a matte blush - unlike the usual Chnael JCs which have a fine shimmer mixed in - and the color is a pink with slight mauve tones to it. It's a lighter color, but the blush itself is quite pigmented. The soft formula is easy to pick up on any brush and just as easy to go overboard with! Scroll on for more photos and swatches.
As I mentioned earlier, despite this being a lighter-colored blush, Chanel Joues Contraste powder blush Emotion (87) is quite pigmented. The slightest touch with a brush picks up and deposits a lot of product. It is easy to blend, though, and on medium-dark skin, this gives a very natural pink flush that's perfect for the colder months ahead. I applied it a little more heavily for my face photo to help the color show through with the pathetic lighting in my room!

I love the fine, subtle shimmers in the typical Chanel Joues Contraste blushes, but Emotion is a welcome change with it's matte but easy-to-blend finish. I am not sure how well this would show up on skin tones darker than mine, but it is quite pigmented and would work well on lighter and medium skin tones. While I used a darker/brighter lip color for the photo, I find this blush looks best paired with medium pinkish-mauve lipsticks (on me). Overall, it's a lovely color, and despite being lighter and not really in keeping with the darker cheeks trend that comes around every winter, Emotion does seem like a lovely color for the cooler months.
I thought Emotion might be similar to two other Chanel Joues Contraste blushes that I have - Rose Initiale and Rose Petale - but they both seem to look almost peachywhen placed next to Emotion, perhaps because of the mauve undertones to Emotion. Emotion is also the most pigmented of the three.
