For years, I have had oily skin and was never without at least a few pimples on my face. Over time, aging has taken it's toll on my skin - in a good way, I guess - and the oiliness and the pimples have almost completely disappeared. I still have sensitive skin, though, and I have to be careful what I throw on my face or I could easily end up with a pesky pimple and the marks to remind of my mistake for another month or two. If you have skin like mine, that needs a bit of a moisture boost, especially in the winters, but not something oily, then you might want to give hyaluronic acid a try.
Hyaluronic acid is a molecule that is found in our bodies and helps lubricate the joints and keep skin supple. I amn't sure where I read/heard it, but apparently, the reason younger skin heals better with less scars is because there is more of the hyaluronic acid in younger skin. The reason hyaluoronic acid is a fabulous moisturizer is because it can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, thus helping skin hold on to a lot more water than most regular moisturizers. It is also great for oily and acne-prone skin because it isn't an "oil" so shouldn't cause breakouts (unless for some reason your skin just doesn't like :P). Finding products containing hyaluronic acid is quite easy nowadays with this being a very common ingredient in a lot of moisturizers and face masks. I prefer to pick serums and gels rather than something labelled antiaging since these feel lighter on my sensitive skin. These products are generally pricier than regular moisturizers, but I personally find them totally worth it. Also, give Whole Foods a try - I have seen some reasonably priced hyaluronic acid moisturizers there.
I have only tried topical versions of hyaluronic acid that like serum and creams, but there are also injectable versions with products like Restylane and Juvederm which are used to temporarily smooth out wrinkles and plump up the skin. I haven't tried either of those, and I definitely wouldn't go for something like that unless I had a dermatologist I could absolutely trust.

La Nuit de Chanel from the Chanel Resynchronizing Skincare range has made me a believer in the moisturizing effects of hyaluoronic acid. I generally use this at night, but it's also great to use under my foundation to avoid any pesky dry patches. If you don't want to switch your current moisturizers but want to give this ingredient a try, check Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Water-Full Hydrogel Face Mask. Available as single-use sheet masks, they plump skin without adding in any oiliness. |

ReplyDeleteWOW- this really sounds great. let me save up now and try it :D
ReplyDeleteHydraluron is so famous for hyaluronic acid, its basically to be used before moisturizer and it really does work..so light weight and skin appears supple and healthy! I recently found a dupe of hydraluron available in india..mainly used by docs especially after peeling etc
ReplyDeleteHey Parita..sorry I missed publishing your comment earlier...got mixed up between mails! :(
DeleteI did not know about Hydraluron...seems to get a lot of love on Makeupalley! Ya, I think a good dermatologist in India would definitely have a less expensive option that would be just as good, mostly because it won't have all the needless markup that cosmetic brands tends to have. Thanks for sharing :)
