An Easy Daytime/Neutral Brown Smokey Eye

Easy Brown Smokey Eyes - Daytime Neutral - Makeup Tutorial
An easy soft brown smokey eye for the day.

I have had pretty limited options for the past few days as far as makeup goes - not by choice, of course.  I am trying to get everything organized and arranged neatly (err..so far, not working out), and to avoid having everything strewn about on the floor, I have been using the same few products over and over again.  A basic brown eyeliner (L'Oreal Gel Eyeliner in Brown) and a neutral eyeshadow quad (Avon Chocolate Sensation eyeshadow quad) have been the staples.  Both of these products are my idea of perfect neutrals, neither too warm nor really cool toned, and with the just the right amount of matte and shimmer mixed in.  Today's makeup look uses these basics and is an easy soft brown smokey eye that would work well for the day.  Here's what I used:

For the eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Avon Eyeshadow Quad - Chocolate Sensation
L'Oreal Gel Eyeliner in Brown
Chanel Les Beiges Powder No. 30
Chanel Le Volume Mascara in Black
Tom Ford Eyeshadow Blending Brush, Suqqu L eyeshadow brush, Tom Ford Pencil Smudger brush, Chanel Lash Curler

My eyelids get oily quite fast, so I always have to start with a good primer that would help the eye makeup stay on longer. Urban Decay's Primer Potion is one of my favorites.

Using the Suqqu L brush (a fluffy eyeshadow brush), applied a soft bronze-brown eyeshadow all over the lid.  I have used the eyeshadow marked 3 in the palette.

Using a tapered blending brush (Tom Ford blender), applied a darker matte brown - marked 4 on the palette - towards the outer corner of the eye.  Using the same blending brush and Chanel Les Beiges powder, blended out the edges along the crease.

Applied a very thin line of eyeliner along the lashline using L'Oreal gel eyeliner in brown.  This is a blackish brown colored eyeliner - dark enough to be seen on my lids but definitely not as stark as black.

Using the Tom Ford pencil brush, very gently blended and softened the eyeliner with the same matte shadow that was applied on the outer corner.  Since I had applied a very thin line and used a brown eyeliner rather than black, this gives just a soft definition along the lashline rather than a darker smudgy liner look.

I am quite used to lining my eyes, so I have used the same brown eyeliner along my lashline.  Used the pencil brush and whatever eyeshadow was leftover on it to blend along the lashline.  Curled lashes and finished with black mascara.  Current favorite - Chanel Le Volume mascara in black.  Please ignore the red, watery eyes - allergies :(

For the rest of my face, I used my usual foundation - Chanel Perfection Lumiere as well as my absolute must-have concealer - Nars Radiant Creamy concealer in Caramel.  It's what I have been using every day now for the past month or two, and it's amazing!  Nars Montenegro cream blush and Chanel Les Beiges powder finished my face makeup.

On my lips, used Stila Color Balm Lipstick in Vivienne.  Forgot to add that in earlier :P

So, that was my easy daytime version of a brown smokey eye.  I am darker skinned, so I can wear this any time of the year.  And if I have to be really, really honest, I can easily get away with only a basic brown liner and some neutral eyeshadow for the rest of my life...and I won't even be stuck in a rut with the same makeup look.  Granted I amn't very adventurous with my makeup routine, but I can manage to change things a bit here and there with just these 2-3 products.  Go darker for the night or skip the eyeshadow and use only a liner for an even simpler makeup look.  Just hope the husband doesn't read this part :P

    1. I bought Suqqu from Selfridges - online. They ship to a whole bunch of countries including India (I got mine shipped to the US, though) and the final pricing includes any duties to be paid so you don't have to worry about packages getting stuck with customs agencies. The only issue is the brushes are almost always out of stock, so it takes a bit of patience to get these, and if you want to order a bunch of these together and save on shipping...well, that would definitely be a miracle :P :D
