|Marc Jacobs Mod Noir Eau de Parfum Spray ($90) at Sephora|
Fragrance Notes: Greens, Gardenia, Creamy Musks.
Style: Bold. Modern. Unique.
Marc Jacobs fragrances are among some of my favorite perfumes for summer, so when the new Marc Jacobs Mod Noir Eau de Parfum launched, I just had to give it a try. The design of this perfume bottle is quite different from the usual Marc Jacobs bottles - no pretty flowers or cute polka dots on this one. Mod Noir is packaged in a simple rounded frosted glass bottle with glossy black linear stripes on it and a glossy black round top. The design has a modern simplicity to it, and I was expecting the perfume to be just as clean and simple.
Marc Jacobs Mod Noir is a light floral, opening with fresh zesty notes (am assuming citrus), and as the fragrance settles in, floral notes of gardenia/tuberose get prominent, followed by warm creamy musks. I haven't had much luck with gardenia-based fragrances (Chanel Gardenia is the only exception), and I was not expecting Mod Noir to fare any better. Turns out, the perfume isn't all that bad, probably because the floral notes in this are very toned down and blended in. The gardenia and tuberose do seem to get a bit stronger as the fragrance settles in, but it's never too heavy. Mod Noir seems like the perfect fragrance for a summer day, something I would probably wear for a lunch with the family. Granted it's not the kind of perfume I would reach for very often, but it has a soft, classic vibe to it that I liked. I do wish it stayed on a bit longer on my skin, though - about 1 or 2 hours and it's gone.
