Maybelline The Nudes - Neutral Eyeshadow Palette

Maybelline The Nudes eyeshadow palette has been around for a while, but it launched in India only recently.  With its mix of matte and shimmer neutrals, most of them variations of brown, Maybelline The Nudes palette is an affordable option for a neutral eyeshadow palette in the Indian makeup/beauty market.  I generally stay off premade palettes unless I am particularly impressed with the eyeshadows textures or colors.  My most-used palette is from MAC, filled with eyeshadows I picked out myself, so I am definitely not the target audience for this product.  Nevertheless, I bought one out of curiosity, and hopefully, the review is helpful for anyone looking to buy this.  Scroll on for more photos, swatches, and review.

The eyeshdows are housed in a black compact case with a see-through top.  I have never used mirrors included in the packaging, so I quite like this simple design.

The eyeshadow colors incuded in this palette are a mix of soft mattes and shimmers.  The shimmery shades have a satin texture to them, and the shimmer is quite fine - not chunky or glittery.  A sponge-tip applicator is included in the palette, but it could have just as easily been left out.  You really cannot use a sponge applicator all that very often - every time you use this, color stays on the sponge, and you end up muddling colors.  That apart, the sponge applicator also keeps rattling around in the palette and dislodges eyeshadows, especially while opening the palette.  I would just throw it away and replace it with one of my own brushes which I can clean and reuse.  The slot is the perfect size to hold a small brush.

The back of the palette has a guide to applying the eyeshadows which have been grouped as quads, trios, and duos.

The palette is quite compact in size, about the same size as my hand, and is perfect for carrying around in a bag.

As far as the design and colors in the eyeshadow palette, I found it a pretty basic but useful neutral eyeshadow palette.  There is a mix of lighter and darker shades, and I would use some colors more often than others, but these are the sort of colors that I reach for most often.  On swatching, though, the eyeshadows are a mixed bag.  The matte shades are a little lacking in pigmentation, with the black shade at the bottom of the palette being the least pigmented eyeshadow in this palette.  Here's a look at the swatches.

Aside from the black, I found the all the other shades easy to use.  While some of the eyeshadows did need a bit of work with swatching, they did show up easily on my lids.  I used a synthetic brush (TBS eyeshadow blending brush) to apply/blend most of the colors, and over a primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion), the colors showed up quite well and stayed on the whole day.  Am adding in two very simple makeup looks where I used the Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette.

Overall, Maybelline's The Nudes palette is a basic, neutral eyeshadow palette that is perfect people who like simple eye makeup looks.  The colors are great for wearing to work and can be paired with a darker eyeliner or base for darker, smokey eye makeup looks.  The shimmery browns in the palette are my favorites, but I also like the matte shades for blending along the crease or to use as a base to layer other eyeshadows over.  My only gripe is with the black eyeshadow - it takes a lot of work for the color to show on my lids.

If you have a lot of options with other neutral and/or custom eyeshadow palettes, then the Maybelline Nudes palette might not be all that very exciting for you.  It is perfect for anyone who prefers softer, simpler makeup looks and/or someone just starting out with makeup.  Not every color would work on every skin tone, but overall, I think there are some useful colors in this palette.  Mix in a colored liner or use a brighter/darker base to change things up a bit.  I would recommend using a primer with these eyeshadows so the colors show up better and stay on longer.
