Chanel's Holiday 2015 Makeup collection, listed as Rouge Noir Absolument in some places and Vamp Attitude in others, is a gorgeous holiday collection inspired by the classic Chanel vampy nail color Rouge Noir.  This deep dark glossy blackish red first appeared on the runway in 1994 with the Chanel Fall/Winter Ready-to-wear collection and soon became one of Chanel's most sought after colors.  As is quite normal for Chanel, different "versions" of the color have been launched of this limited edition polish, all just as good but with little tweaks that set them aside from the original.  If you are curious about the original Rouge Noir, you may be able to pick one now, released as part of the holiday 2015 collection Rouge Noir Absolument, but more on that in a bit.  A limited edition eyeshadow quad, a beautiful dark Illusion D'Ombre, a couple of lipsticks, and eyeliners and mascaras all add to the vampy charm of the collection.  Scroll on down for swatches of some of the products.

Among the eye makeup products included in the Rouge Noir collection, the star of the collection - to me - is the Illusion D'Ombre cream eyeshadow in Rouge Noir.  It's a blackened red shade, pretty much a cream eyeshadow version of the nail color, with some fine coppery shimmer mixed in.  It can be used as a sheer wash of color or built up for a stronger smokey eye.  Either way, it's a lovely color to have for fall/winter, or if like me, you love using darker eye makeup regardless of the seasons.  The Signe Particulier eyeshadow palette is another lovely launch in this collection.  Like a lot of Chanel holiday quads, the shadows in this palette are softly pigmented, but layered or used as a soft wash of color, they seem perfect for a sophisticated makeup look.

Two eyeliners are included in this collection.  Le Crayon Yeux in Or Safran (57) is easily one of the best gold eyeliner pencils I have tried.  It's a soft, muted gold with no shimmer or glitter particles. Use as is for a soft gold liner or go for a smudged haze of gold (to layer along with other shadows) using the smudger at the other end of the pencil.  Rouge Noir (17) eyeliner pencil is a dark reddish black shade that is the perfect color to rock a dark kohl liner look.  Use this dark matte color as an alternative to the usual (or harsher) black liner, adding intensity to the lashline or to line the waterline.  Both the eyeliners would work beautifully paired with the Signe Particulier eyeshadow quad and also coordinate well with the Rouge Noir Le Volume de Chanel mascara - a reddish black shade that's a limited edition release with this collection.

The lone blush offering in this collection is Joues Contraste Lumiere in 12 Coups de Minuit.  I call it a blush mostly because the packaging is similar to other Joues Contraste blushes, but to me (on my skin tone) this is a beautiful, subtle highlighter.  On lighter skin tones, this might show up as a soft peach beige color but it's more beige on my skin and adds a subtle radiance to the skin.  .

On to the lip products, included in the Rouge Noir Holidays 2015 makeup collection are 2 Levres Scintillantes lipglosses - Rose de Lune (a soft shimmering pink) and Etincelle (a dark reddish brown color with gold shimmer).  Both would look lovely used on their own for a glossy tint of color to the lips or layered over lipsticks.  For those looking for more opaque coverage, I tried out 3 lipsticks in this collection - Rouge Allure Velvet La Merveilleuse (a raspberry pink), Rouge Allure Vaporeuse (a soft nude pink that's listed as Vamporeuse on the Nordstrom website), and the dark reddish brown Rouge Allure in Rouge Noir.  While I haven't bought anything from this collection, I have quite a few of the Chanel Rouge Allure lipsticks, and quite strangely, I find they wear better on my lips now than when they were new.  Found them quite drying initially.  Not sure if my lips are a lot less dry now that I am older :P  Anyway, the colors are beautiful, and after a couple of failed attempts at finding dupes for my friend, I find most of the colors unique even if they don't seem very dramatically different at first glance.  My favorite of the three lipsticks would be La Merveilleuse.  It's a pretty pop of color without being too bright or loud.

Also included in the collection are Le Rouge Double Intensité lip color in Merry Rose 397 (soft grey pink) and 47 Daring Red.  The classic Rouge Noir polish is apparently available as part of the holiday 2015 collection in newer packaging (slightly different cap/packaging colors), though I am not sure where to buy one.  Nordstrom lists Vamp 18 (the US version which is a dark burgundy with fine shimmer) online but no Rouge Noir 18 (the original creamy glossy blackish red).  The names are sometimes interchanged, but I have both these colors so I know for sure they are not the same.  Oh well, a Chanel nail color just isn't good enough if it's easily available, I guess!  If you can make do with something a little more readily available, the other two nail colors in this collection - Le Vernis Rose Fusion and the shimmering reddish black top coat Lame Rouge Noir - are both good picks.

Overall, Chanel's new holidays collection Rouge Noir Absolument (or Vamp Attitude) is a fabulous makeup collection for the fall-winter season.  There is a good mix of colors which all work beautifully together and can be used to create dark smokey/vampy looks as well as work great at neutral/nude makeup.

  1. Fabulous swatches and efforts Radhika :)
the collection is stated to launch here on 25th and am eagerly waiting for the 347 no lipstick and have saved a picture of that in my phone .. Le Merveilleuse and nail polish in Rose Fusion and top coat like you said ...

I'm trying to love CHANEL Lipsticks but no matter what I'm so used to intense pigments like Estee Lauder pure envy or NARS that the staying power of CHANEL puts me off :(

And can you believe me ... it happens with me all the time with YSL Lipsticks , when they are new , but 2nd or 3 rd application is much better
