Tatcha Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder ($65/2.1 oz at Sephora) |
Tatcha is quite a popular brand among a lot of the beauty bloggers I follow, so when I got a deluxe sample of the Tatcha Indigo soothing rice enzyme powder with one of my Sephora orders, I couldn't wait to try it. This is a creamy, water-activated enzyme powder that cleans the skin while leaving it feeling soft and polished. It includes anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and soothing ingredients such as Japanese indigo, Okinawa red algae extracts, green tea, Japanese rice bran, oatmeal, etc. I already use (and love) the Amore Pacific Treatment Enzyme Peel, and this seemed like a similar product. The first thing I have to mention about Tatcha is their product packaging - it's simple yet so practical. The powder comes in a jar, and the lid has a tiny sliding latch-type opening which helps dispense the product as well as keep it contained and mess-free within the jar at other times. Of course, they assume people like me would remember to keep it closed, but let's not talk about that :P Moving on to the product itself, it's a soft pale blue powder with no particular fragrance to it. Looks like Surf, smells like besan* - is what I thought, and I doubt anybody non-Indian is going to understand that statement! To use, dispense a small amount of powder on wet hands, add a drop or two of water and rub between palms to make a smooth paste, which soon melts into a creamy foam. Apply on to wet face just the same as you would any other face wash/cleanser, massage for about 15 seconds, and rinse off with water. The powder/foam washes off easily and leaves skin squeaky clean skin. My face actually feels a tiny bit dry at times, though nothing my usual essence-serum-moisturizer routine cannot handle.

Tatcha Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder - Ingredients |
Tatcha Indigo soothing enzyme powder is a simple cleanser with a mix of gentle, natural polishing ingredients as well as foaming cleansing agents. It works great as a cleanser when I don't have any makeup to remove, and even at times when I have worn light makeup, I have used this after a cleansing oil as a double cleanse option. I have oily-combination skin, and I do find it a bit drying some days - depending on how my skin is faring for the day - and I prefer to use it in combination with a cleansing oil as it balances out my finicky skin. The polishing effect is very mild, but my skin feels smoother with regular use. As an exfoliator, this seems like a good pick for someone with sensitive skin, but I find it more effective as a daily cleanser with the added benefit of very gentle exfoliation with regular use.
Do give the Tatcha Indigo soothing rice enzyme powder a try if you have oily/oily-combination skin type and are looking for an Asian take on the face cleansing routine.

*besan - chickpea flour; Surf - a brand of laundry detergent - blue powder - my mom used in India.
i've been seeing this at sephora and very curious to try it out. it sounds good but quite expensive!
ReplyDeleteSo true..Tatcha is a pricey brand, so I always stock up when their products show up as promos. I like that they have travel sizes, though, for a lot of their products. Makes it easier to try out, and some products - like this powder - I don't use daily and the small jar itself lasts a while.
