Urban Decay Full Spectrum Eyeshadow Palette ($55) - available at Sephora |
Urban Decay is probably more famous for the many variations of naked and neutral palettes put out every year, but when I first came across this brand, what stood out to me were their brightly colored, superpigmented eyeshadows. The bright blues and yellows are not colors that I reach for, but I have to admit, there's something so cheerful about all that color. For those of you who do love a splash of color in your makeup routine, Urban Decay has the perfect holiday palette - the Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette. This limited edition set features 21 eyeshadows organized by color family creating an ombre effect. The colors range from bright yellows and greens to pure whites and in finishes varying from shimmery to matte. The palette is housed in a glamorous black case, has a huge mirror inside, and includes a dual-ended brush that can be used to place eyeshadows as well as blend them out. Scroll on for swatches.
I am a neutral-eyeshadow/makeup person, and my definition of a bold makeup look would rarely venture beyond a purple or plum eyeshadow. Needless to say, the Urban Decay Full Spectrum eyeshadow palette is not marketed toward someone like me. Sure, I could see myself puttting some of the colors in there to good use - the golds, coppers, and definitely the deeper greens, black and navy. For the most part, though, this is the palette for those who love adding bright colors in their makeup looks. The eyeshadows themselves are not too bad, reasonably pigmented, though a few do seem a bit soft/powdery. I never use eyeshadows on their own, without a primer or base of some kind, so this is never an issue for me, and the eyeshadows in the Urban Decay Full Spectrum palette do seem like they should be easy to blend. The colors could be used for a ton of makeup looks, from softer neutrals, darker smokey eyes, and of course bright pops of color. It's a very versatile palette, especially for those who love to try out different colors. For the price point, and going by the quality of the eyeshadows, I think it's a good buy.
