An Easy Berry-Toned Neutral Makeup Look

Fall Winter Makeup with Berry Neutrals - NARS Grenadines, Coconut Grove

After a couple of days sporting a dark vampy lip, I figured it's time to get back to what I love most - a soft neutral makeup look.  Today's makeup look has a lot of my old favorites - products that I have been using and loving for a long time now, and also old because, well, some of these are now discontinued and unavailable even on Ebay or Amazon. 😛 I bought a lot of makeup when I moved to India a while back (at that time, I wasn't certain about returning to the US) - and most of this was brands I wouldn't find easily in India.  NARS was at the top of the list, and while I am a little - okay, a  lot - embarrassed at how much makeup I have hoarded, I do love my NARS eyeshadows.  NARS Grenadines - a dusty matte garnet shade that looks more like a blush than an eyeshadow and is one of my must-haves.  It doesn't seem to be available anywhere currently, and I am so glad I bought it when I did.  I have seen similar shadows, though, in MUFE and ABH.  Scroll on for products used and an easy how-to on this berry-toned neutral makeup look.

1.  Urban Decay Smog used all over lids as a base, from lashline to the crease and smudged with fingers.  The UD pencils are quite longlasting and work great on their own and as a base to layer powder shadows over.   UD Smog also applied along lower lashline.
2.  NARS Grenadines applied with a fluffy shadow brush all over the lids and blended out along the crease.   Also blend along the lower lashline.
3.  Using an angled liner brush, apply NARS Coconut Grove along the upper lashline, extending it out slightly at the outer corner.  Keep the line thicker along the outer thirds of the lashline, and press the color in a thin line close to the lashes as you move toward the inner corner of the eye.  I prefer this way of applying as I have more rounded eyes and I prefer the illusion of elongated eyes provided by this lining technique.
4.  Finish with black mascara for the lashes and UD Corrupt along waterline.

For the rest of the face, I went with the same soft brownish berry toned hues.  My foundation-concealer routine never varies - Diorskin Nude Air serum foundation, YSL Touch Eclat, and Cle de Peau concealer.  I used a Real Techniques stippling brush to apply NARS cream blush in Montenegro and set along the center of my face and under the eyes with Chanel Vitalumiere powder foundation.  For the lips, I filled in the entire lips with No. 7 lipliner in Nude - a neutral, peach-brown shade - and topped with Chanel Troublant gloss for a soft neutral lip.

I have used a lot of discontinued products here, but really, it's quite easy to find these sort of colors across a lot of brands now.  Here's a look at the swatches of the colors I have used.

I love browns and neutral shades, but because of my medium-dark skin tone, I can also add deeper shades like berry and plum and still end up with soft neutral looks.  I do think, used with a light hand, these are colors that would work well on most people, especially during the cooler fall-winter months.

Sorting through my makeup got me thinking about the Sephora gift card promo event happening now. I have been limiting myself to picking up skincare and some essential makeup like foundation, concealer, etc., all of which I bought during the sale in November.  I think I will be sticking with something similar this time too.  If you have any recommendations for a moisturizing eye cream, please do let me know.  I am currently trying out a sample of the Caudalie Premier Cru eye cream, but cannot make up my mind on whether I like it enough to buy.
